Ah. There's your problem right there.

Your knees are rejecting the rest of your body.

Knee surgery's a doddle. Really, it is. You'll be in and walking out
in a day, with hardly any ongoing pain, which will only last a few
days anyway. Had minor cartilage tears fixed on both of mine in the
past - can't recommend it highly enough.

Well, so far it's a narrow escape. After manipulating my legs around
a bit the GP seems to think things don't feel notchy enough for it to
be serious cartilidge damage, and I've been packed off with a
fortnights worth of co-codomol and advice to come back if it's no
better in a few weeks and he'll send me to a physio.

Worryingly he refered to cocodomol as an anti-inflamatory though, so
maybe he got his medical degree with his cornflakes.

Jolly good. But you should consider whether you can go see an
orthapaedic surgeon anyway - if it's not getting better and he wants
to send you to physio, insist that you see a surgeon, not so he can
cut you open, but so that he can give a much better diagnosis; even if
he still advises just physio it'll be beter targetted, IYSWIM.
Indeed. And if he thinks he _has_ prescribes an anti-inflammatory,
i.e. that there is inflammation that needs reducing, you should take
ibuprofen as well. There's no interaction, but you may not need as
much of the co-codamol if you do this.

My GP would print out a diet sheet.

Although, I think he has got the message that the chance of me reducing my
cholesterol and alcohol intake is, well, slim. Also, I think I've finally
got through to him that if my weight has not increased in the time between
my infrequent visits, then he should be pleased witht the achievement.
