FOAK: Kawie Carburetor Idle Adjustment

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Biker Dude, Nov 6, 2010.

  1. If the Kawasaki Stealership that tested your coils has the correct
tester, they can test your old CDI for you.

  3. That's a really interesting thread. Love the guy who turned his sound
    card into an oscilloscope.
You learn something new every day. I must say this is the first and only
partial electronic ignition failure I've ever heard of.

But it's the carbs. Especially because he's been fiddling with them.

  4. It's unlikely to be that, as well.

Jolly good. So far, you've managed to muddle up your Kawasaki
carburettor types, tell everyone (incorrectly) that Kawasaki used
different sets of coils on the old air-cooled 550 and persuade the OP
to remove and cart off for testing a perfectly good functional set of
    components.

Were I you, I'd stop trying to offer tech advice because yours is
invariably wrong, and sometimes positively dangerous.

So far I have completely and thoroughly rebuilt the carbs, no change
    in the symptoms.

It runs OK when cold at idle and when it warms a bit the mid range and
    high speed missing is terrific.

I have eliminated the coils, HT leads, elbows, resistors in the
elbows, and I have found the resistance values for the "pulse coils"
also known as the "pick up coils" and will soon be testing them.

Winter has arrived and this slows the work in my garage, the one with
    the snow on the roof......

Will take the ignition system to the limit and then it's back to the
carbs... maybe I can buy a spare set on fleabay.

Jesus. It's not the ignition system.

    It.

    Is.

    Not.

    The.

    Ignition

    System.

The fact that it starts ok when cold and then misfires when it warms
up is a massive clue. It sounds like it's running rich. The carbs are
still gunged somewhere, or if you're 100% certain that they're
properly, clinically clean, then you've rebuilt them wrongly, somehow.
But my money is on blocked jets, passageways, whatever.

Don't waste more time on the ignition system. Get thee to eBay, my
son, and find a decent set of guaranteed working carbs.

well if that were the problem you might have been right...but you
aren't. It's the carb's, kind of obvious really.
