I've been looking at a W plated (2000) 4.0 litre petrol engined Grand
    Cherokee Limited.
56500 miles. Full Service History. 6000 quid.

    What does the FOAK think?
Are they good, bad or indifferent?
Anything likely to go wrong with said vehicle in the near future?

My business partner has one. It's a poorly thought out, stupidly
designed, shabby, American, gas guzzling, heap of shit that handles
like a cheap sofa balancing on four space hoppers full of jelly.

Would you say that if it was a U8 Bagheera ?

    <OK admits it was a Matra-Simca prototype only>

I once almost, nearly, bought a Matra-Simca Rancho
    (a sort of primitive SUV).

  9. I'm currently driving around in a Jeep Liberty. 2000 miles new and
it's horrible. Basic beyond belief, nasty interior, slow yet fuel
guzzling and the autobox is dire.

That said, it's ahire car, so I cane the tits off it in straight
lines, have to slow down for corners and then cane it on the way out.
Once the body roll has righted itself.

Based on this, I would never look to spend my own money on the marque.

I had one of those - it didn't last very long. It's only redeeming
feature was that it was easy to spot in car parks.

I remember those. My Vincent/Morini/Parilla owning mate once had a Simca
1100. At least they were innovative:
"The 1100's transmission configuration was revolutionary in that it was
transverse and axial with the engine giving the 'engine on one side,
transmission on the other' layout copied on almost all hot hatches and
front wheel drive vehicles ever since."

  13. In uk.rec.motorcycles, vulgarandmischevious belched forth and ejected
    the following:
My classes were never that big, you might've squeezed a couple of large
family cars in but never two Jeeps.

The FiL had a couple of estates. The boot floor was removeable and had
fold-down legs so it could be used as a picnic table.

He's still got the picnic table.

  18. And those are the *good* points..

Seriously - the worst thing about it is the handling. As in 'don't try
going round corners with any sort of reasonable velocity'.
