Fucking, fucking tiscali. Configured new Netgear DM602 modem/router ok and
can ping the default gateway & Tiscali's DNS servers but _still_ can't get
    web access.
    Arse. Help?
    cheers,

Might be worth casting an eye over Proxy settings in IE, none or auto-config
is best perhaps? Check Firewall settings / software and make sure nothing is
blocking IE. What about ping on public internet addresses like google.co.uk
    and others?
Just a quick thought, not exactly expert advice from me.

try telnet to port 80 of a site and see if that connects,

If it does there is a way of doing a HTTP get such that it sends back the
HTML(try "GET / HTTP/1.0" without the quotes of course)

That way you can prove that the connection to the site is OK and that it
    must be a browser/config issue

    ping www.bbc.co.uk
See if you get DNS resolution

If so, you've probably got some arsey proxy set in IE, if not, then your
    DNS settings are fubar

Sorted now. Thanks for the DNS pointer. I'd entered Tiscali's DNS IPs in the
router settings but left the internet connection DNS properties set to auto.
<note to self: leave installing new router at mates place until after
    sobering up>
    Cheers,
