Good, good... it's one of the nearer points to land, too, which is all good.

For cheapness, get a fly-drive package to Florida from Teletext.co.uk.
Go before the end of June and you won't need to pre-book accommodation.

West coast is quiet & lovely.

East coast is more brash: Cocoa Beach is my favourite as it is full of
scantily clad surfer boys. You may find Daytona Beach more to your
    taste. ;)

I found Kennedy Space Center and Seaworld [1] interesting. Take one of
those fan driven things for a spin in a mangrove swamp to get the
    adrenalin flowing.

You can find plenty to do for a fortnight without spending a cent in a
    Disney theme park.

[1] owned by Anhauser Busch who make Budweiser so the beer tour is
    obligatory

  5. Well, I'm using it to pay for the ol' lorry lessons, innit, so I'm going
to be well down by the time I start but I see that as an investment,
obviously. If I spend it now on something else, I really will have
    nothing left.
That's funny. I've always wanted to go to America more than a tour of
Europe. I think that's more to do with the fact they speak English and I
won't feel like a hypocrite going to Europe and not speaking the lingo.
Australia's never really appealed but ask SWK as she (my Auntie)
buggered off to NC to live with my Uncle. Dunno how, but they split up
while they were out there. He came back, she didn't.
I'd be interested to know as well. I could ask my old man, he's been all
over the place and to see her and everything but I've just tried phoning
    him and he's not in.

Perhaps you should stick to the Boston [1] area where they make some pretty
    good European style beers.

Although, you will find a few tacky British/Irish bars selling imported
    stuff at hugely inflated prices.

[1] or just go to Bavaria which is my all time favourite place for beer
drinking. Dunkel Weissbier, mmm. Great scenery too.

Have a look at Colorado. It is a simply *amazing* place. Rocky Mountain
National Park at this itme of year is stunning. I went a couple of years ago
on business and managed to wangle getting the family included in the cost to
the firm. One day up in the mountains, we covered over 300miles and never
even saw another car all day. The altitude takes a bit of getting used to at
5500-14000feet but it's worth it. There's loads to see and do but if you
want isolation, the mountains are superb for that. Direct flight ot Denver
on BA from Gatwick ain't too dear either.

I believe (1) the visa waiver program is still on, so no need for a visa
if you are staying less than 90 days. Just fill in the nice green
questionaire on the flight and you're all set.

How about http://www.daytonachamber.com/bwhome.html. Colleague goes every
year and loves it. Probably mainly cruiser riders though.

For this time of year I'd recommend Florida, even if it is high season
there and so not the cheapest time of year to visit. Florida has both
the touristy bits, beaches and rural areas. And at this time of the year
I believe it is the warmest part of the US.

For a bit less crowded beaches try the west coast, of Florida, but
i like the Miami Beach - Ft Lauderdale stretch as well. On that stretch I
like Hollywood, yes there is one in Florida too. Especially north of
Hollywood and up towards John U. Lloyd-state park.

Yes, how could I forget that you may be able to catch Bike Week. I
highly recommend it even if it mostly cruisers, but the burds and the
music is still very good. The sprots bikes mostly hang out at the raceway.

A bit expensive motels though for a single guy, I stayed in a Super 8
in Sanford which is probably 50-60 miles away. For cheap accomodations
I otherwise recommend the chain Motel 6. They are reliable and cheapest
of all the chains. You might find cheaper independent motels but the quality
    is always variable in those.

    Done that. Enjoyed it.
Got dragged to an Oirish bar. All U2 and merkins telling Irish visitors that
they(the septics) were more Irish than the Paddies.

I drank my Bushmills and told the folk I was visiting to take me somewhere
else before I died of boredom. Just as I left, one of the Paddies got fed
up, smacked the loudest yank and got a resounding cheer. I spent the rest of
the evening in a rather nice brew pub.
On my list of places to visit.

  19. I've just had a look on the "will they let you in" page, and it appears
that if you've ever been arrested, you need to apply for a visa, even if
it didn't result in conviction. The rehabilitation of offenders act also
    doesn't apply to US law.

    Bit of a bugger, that.

Oh shit, 'ere we go. This is a bit of a catch 22. You see, the perfect
defence would be to say that I am a cruiser rider myself (see sig), but then
to admit that in this predominantly sprot bike arena would also probably
    attract flak.
