Room is another consideration. We've only got a small freezer which can
take a couple of trays and depending on the time of the month not many
    bags.

If you need a lot of ice, say for beer cooling at a BBQ or whatever, its
easy to go and buy a shedload of ice for 70p a bag.

I meant a *bigger* kitchen, in fact. That will need a bigger house as
    well....

    ....but nowhere to keep it!

Alternatively, get friendly with a few pub landlords and wait until they
    have an equipment upgrade...

Well no, It's just that I would have expected one person to step forward
with a logical explanation. It looks like I've stumped the FOAK.

  12. We just bought one of said fridges [1] and it's pretty good actually
makes (I think) 150 cubes a day. Not a huge amount but the freezer is so
big that if we have a party I'll just empty the ice maker the day before
and store it in the freezer while the fridge makes more.

It's got a remote water filter too which dispenses cold filtered water
which is a bonus. The only downer is the filter doesn't look like it
will last forever and no doubt will be pricey to replace.

Haven't tried the 'crushed' ice setting yet :)

[1] Reduced to £500 as well which was a bonus.

If I need to cool beer for a BBQ I'll just use 50l of liquid nitrogen
to do the job. I certainly won't be fucking around with poxy ice
    cubes.

  16. Dead cold ice is dry and, I suppose, is bonded to the surface of the
    tray.
