So what's the correct grease for rear suspension linkages?
They are needle rollers rather than just bushes, if that makes a difference.
The manual says Suzuki Super Grease A but Halfords don't sell it.
I've always just used the same stuff for everything but I guess
that you really should use different stuff for wheel,
    steering head, and suspension bearings.

  4. I use wheel bearing grease or Castrol bog standard, whichever I find first.
    Don't plaster it on though.

Use a good Lithium Based Grease like Castrol LM.

    Or Castrol Moly

    I misread that as "Molly".

I can't help but think that BGN and Molly might be a match made in heaven.

Are we still in the BGN subthread?
If not then I guess I'll just use the LM stuff that's in the grease gun.

On the other hand, a grease gun with its long narrow nozzle might be
    just the thing for BGN.

  11. White waterproof grease, commonly found in chandlers, is yer maun. At a
pinch, any straight normal grease will do, but I'd only use it if there
was provision to lube easily, ie, with a nipple.

I don't think so. These are needle rollers with rubber seals and
supposed to be sealed for life
so a waterproof grease shouldn't be required. It looks like LM grease is
    right for most things but
"Comma CV & Lith-Moly Grease 500G is a popular car maintenance grease
    that is
designed to be used on Constant Velocity Joints & for multipurpose
    greasing."
would be better for things that only move a bit and carry a heavy load.

Perhaps I'll go to Halfords and get some white, black, blue and red grease
so I can always use the wrong one for any job.

  13. If the rubbers look like they'll stay proper, then ok. Did the old ones
still have their shape and sealing ability intact? If so, job's a good
un. I've found that many of these so-called 'sealed for life' designs
    are quite shit, really.

Rubbish. "Sealed for life" is just that.

When the seal breaks down, the component's life is over shortly
    thereafter.

    QED.

Haven't taken it apart yet. Just thought I should as I got an advisory
    notice
at the last MOT for a leaking shock absorber so for the next I need to
    either
wipe it with a cloth just before the test, or get the shock rebuilt.
And if the latter, I might as well check the rest of the suspension.

So who is good for rebuilding shocks?

MCT in Stowmarket rebuild those that can be stripped, but I'd buy a new
    one from someone like Maxton

Considering the state of the axle on a boat trailer I assisted with
replacing earlier this year I'd concur.

Ducati front wheel bearings are particularly shit. Sealed both sides, they
corrode to shit. Point of Note Ant.
