The G/F would like a GPS for her birthday, being as I'm a walking map, I
have no need of such things, so have no idea what is what in the GPS
    world.
Recommendations for an easy to use GPS device?
Something removeable is best as she lives in pikey land.
    Thanks
    Alan.

Indeed. Easily transferred to a selection of vehicles. I have a 'Rider'
    with the optional car mount.
The pedestrian route option is also v. useful in unfamiliar cities.

If you look at previous threads you'll see the FOAK is divided on this
one. Personally I'm dead chuffed with my Zumo 550 and Garmin's
    customer service.

I ended up ignoring the FOAK and having a good think about exactly
what I needed, followed by thorough research into what the
    manufacturers offered.

One important criterion is whether it'll be used on a bike.

I have the TTRider2 which I really rate, like Pete.

Mother just bought one of these http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131695

Its a good price for an easy to use unit.

Ah - I have one of the cheaper ones - a TomTom One Europe (cost
something like £120), which requires a cable running from the unit
itself to the cigar lighter in the car. I don't view that as a big
problem (and I had an adaptor/clamp for it which I used on my Tiger a
    few times).

The advantage of 'Rider' is the bluetooth. So you can look very
slightly less of a nana relying on Jane's dulcet tones. With the unit
    hidden in your pocket.

You've not met SWMBO have you ?

  14. My stick-it-to-the-windscreen thing failed and Garmin sent me another one
with no arguments, FOC, so no complaints there. The update CD arrived and
    worked too.

I'll add here that because it's flat you can chuck it in a tankbag and
use it on a bike as a short term measure if you're in Europe.

Fine as long as your riding in Europe is mainly in the dry.

Probably. Of course, the proper bike ones have other advantages, but
    that's a different matter.
