This'll probably put any sane person off travelling in a car with me,
    but here goes.

The last time I found I had no grip I was in the renault 5. I was
going down a hill which had a 90 degree right at the bottom, with big
boulders straight on. As I got near the bottom I found I was now on
black ice and not much was happening in the way of slowing.

I took my feet off the pedals and turned the wheel to the right a fair
amount, and hoped very very hard that I'd find some grip before
slamming into the boulders. The car started turning, but I wouldn't
like to guess what would've happened if the ice hadn't run out before
    the road ran out.

The reasoning was that any available grip would be used for steering,
not slowing or speeding up. I'm sure someone better at these things
can say whether this is reasonable thinking.

I dun dat. Der ice run out, der grippy tarmac cum back when der
fookin car were sideways and der fookin car barrel-rolled three fookin
times. Right hurt my fookin head, it did.
I'd say that was reasonable. Reduce stress on the contact patch, just
the same as when riding your bike, innit. Loss of grip to the front
has the same consequence in a car - apart from the car doesn't dump
you off, flop on its side and **** off down the road in a shower of
expensive sparks. Leaves a hole in the hedge as it takes you through,
    though.

  3. I recall in the past riding very gingerly towards college and being
overtaken by a guy on a moped going as fast as he could and certainly
twice as fast as he should. I expected any moment to see him launched
into the surrounding fields and once out of sight expected any minute
to come across the wreckage. After taking around an hour to cover the
6 miles or so the moped was in the car park almost cold when I arrived
    <sigh>.

    Ginge barfed:
First gear in a car when doing 130mph is interesting. [1]

Certainly had engine braking, for about 0.5 seconds before the gearbox
    decided to turn inside out.

[1] He did mean to get 3rd, honestly!
