FOAK: French BHP limit

My employer (a small Brum software house) has given me the go-ahead to
depart these shores, seeing as I work exlusively from home anyway, so
I'm starting to weigh up the options.

I think New Zealand might be taking the piss, which leaves France at
the top of the list. Question is, would I be able to take the MV with
me, or would the 100BHP limit preclude that? Also, Would it have to be
switched to French registration if that was my primary residence, or
could it be left as is?

In practice, many/most sprotsbike owners remove the restriction
anyway, but if you were wanting to register it there then you'd have
to first get it restricted, yes.

As for the registration, I suspect that if you had a UK Address as
well there wouldn't be a problem about leaving it on UK plates, unlike
Switzerland, where it's a no-no. You'd have to keep up UK road tax and
    MOT of course (cough).

But SWK (dog, perchance?) may be along shortly. I'm Swiss-resident, so
    not sure of the details.

Don't suppose that small Brum software house needs a Java web
    developer do they?

Sounds like a reasonable course of action. Do you know if this means
they actually stick it on a dyno as part of the registration process,
or do you have to fit an approved restrictor kit?

*If* they make it through their latest financial headache, & if that
Java developer has a reasonable knowledge of Oracle and the financial
services industry (investments rather than L&P), then possibly, but not
    for a few months.

Good point - I think my insurance is restricted to a maximum of 30 days
out the country in any one stint.

Ah, that's the sort of thing I'm looking to leave behind.
One relational database is mush the same as another.
Ah, I just write what I'm told to really. Or at least, that's what
I'd like to do in order to take some stress out of work.
    Oh well. Ta anyway.

It's definitely not the place to be if you don't like stress - and 16+
hour days - and very little income. On the other hand, if you don't
like the typical large company political bullshit, but do like your
efforts to actually make a difference, it's perfect!

  11. How is the insurance done? Is it like having, say, a nitro kit
in the uk and there are only a few specialist insurers, or do
the insurance company turn a blind eye?

  12. Have you? I did google, couldn't find it. You do x-no-archive
    occasionally.
I'm not forcing you to answer.

Preston Kemp bored us all completely to death with wittery prose along
    the lines of:
Go back home once a month. Problem sorted.

I don't think you can register a bike on foreign plates in any Euro
    country.

Besides, as our resident German said, he only brought his bike over the
week before last. Maybe you could say this. ;-)

Sounds exactly like where I am at the moment, and the lack of money
thing is starting to get silly. It was ok for the first couple of
    months but a year later...

    Paging Dog for gory details!

If France is your primary residence, then you'll have to register it
over here. It's a bit of a nightmare. Will be moreso, if the model
isn't sold in France (although I'm pretty sure it is).

You'll have to restrict it, register it (and then derestrict it).

The chances of an insewerants co proving you have an accident related
to power, is pretty slim. It'll be up to you to decide whether you take
    the risk or not.

Whereabouts in France are you thinking of?

Hmmm... could get a tad expensive methinks.
How would telling my insco that Peter only brought his bike over the
    week before help?

Dunno about you Will, but I tend to find that people who freely issue the
advice to "get a life" are generally those most needing one.

A very good question, & one that I was saving for a later date, but as
    you asked...

The ideal criteria, in no particular order:

    1. Lots of traffic-free twisty roads
    2. Snowboarding within 30 mins drive
    3. Windsurfing within 30 mins drive
    4. Airport with cheap flights to UK within 1 hour ride
    5. Biarritz style vibe (hard to quantify that one)
    6. Cheap houses (probably conflicts with #2)

    I don't think that's asking too much :) If it's an area where they've
heard of soap & the women shave their pits then that'd be perfect...
