Everyone seems to be asking elctrical questions this evening so I'll risk it.

    <assumes supplicative posture>

Oh FOAK that is UKRM please bestow the knowledge upon me.
I seek enlightenment and a reasonably priced but fully featured Freeview box.

What should I get to replace the ageing Pace unit which no longer seems to be
able to maintain lip sync and sometimes won't return to TV from the listings
    screen?

Thanks for that, unfortunately the workaround mentioned is for Sony rather
    than Pace digiboxes.

What are these new ones with card slots then? Would I want one? Should I ****
off to uk.tech.digital-tv or has anyone on here got a P.O.V. ?

Don't mind if I do, I'd love to be able to help but, seeing as they're
not allowed to transmit Freeview type digital signals to me for fear
of upsetting those french froggie french cunts in frogland I have no
idea, nor have I an idea of when it might be worth having an idea. I
can't even get Channel 5 for fucks sake and there's a bikey prog on 5
tonight - which I'll miss. I mean who won the war anyway.

    Sorry for that.

They let you stick a card in to access pay services. At the moment there's
just Top Up TV which gives you a bit of E4 and Sky One - provided your
hardware manufacturer has forked over the cash for a licence for the relevant
    conditional access firmware.

Sympathys for your signal loss, try tying the Ensign over the dish and
salute in the direction of Marble Arch.

A dutch website which mirrors some interesting TV channels is domain
hopping out there somewhere, is broadband available?

    Daewoo setpal. DS608, I think.

Piss easy to set up and will pick up weak signals where other boxes
    fail.

Card slot is for Top up TV.

    Its about to go titsup.com.

Subscriptions appear to be barely a tenth of their projected figures.

Most opinions I have read are: "It's crap".

Hmm, same thing when I checked it this morning. Whether you have to wait
until the right moment to attempt a firmware download I'm not sure. There
are no numbers on the bottom of my Pace DTVA which relate to any model
names on the url Muck posted last night.
