I am taking my first holiday in seven years without SWUTHTBO [1] so I
have booked a ticket from Harwich to Hook of Holland and another one
from Calais to Dover two weeks later. Where should I go? A beer tour
of Germany, Czech republic and Belgium has its attractions but other
    suggestions are welcome.

I'm going in the last two weeks of September, so I might make a run
for the South of France and North West Italy.

Garfagnana, Northern Tuscany. Stay near Barga, just got back from there,
    it's brilliant.

it used to have an upper age limit of 26, but then again, it also used
to only cost £160 and include *all* ferries as well as all trains.

I'd be up for doing it again, but I don't expect the SO would - she's
    too used to her comforts.

I think the upper limit has gone, one of the chaps that used to work for
me recently came back from interrailing round Europe, and he's in his
    early 30's.

Thinking about it, I wonder if recent age discrimination laws are what's
    ended that restriction.

Paeage to Geneva. Switch to decent roads and go South through the big
Maritime Alps, end up at the Med, dick around in the mountains there
to your heart's content, come back.

    Buy a michelin map.

more the "carrying your own luggage all over the place" aspect rather
than the train bit. She's OK on the Eurostar as long as we get a taxi
    to and from the Hotel.

Also, for me, Interrail equates to basically bumming around Europe,
only paying for hotels when absolutely unavoidable, and kipping on
    over-night trains where possible.

Some mates (biking mates) of mine have a nice gite near Limoges, "La
Porcherie", and can show you a couple of brilliant roads up into the
mountains if you fancy stopping off for a couple of days on the way south?

Unmunge the email address if you're interested

  20. I should hope so. 'Bout 20 years ago I had to argue my way into a YH in
Nurnberg because the German YHA had an upper limit of 26yo. This simply
hadn't registered with me as the UK YHA /SYHA have no upper limit and
made no mention of this in any of their paperwork regarding
    reciprococity.
