FOAK: Ebayers

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by steve auvache, Jan 30, 2011.

  1. I am having a clear out and some of the stuff I have is ebay fodder.

    Question:

Packaging materials. bubble wrap, corrugated cardboard, that sort of
shit. any recommendations for sources of this stuff?

Also a half decent carrier, links has been posted before but my Google
mojo fails me on this one.

keeps me in all the corrugated cardboard I need. Lidl & Aldi still put
cardboard cases in the aisles so would be good places to scrounge boxes.

How far is Cane from you? I bet he has all sorts of packaging materials
coming in with delivieries that could be recycled. "Monkey shit" as we
called it, polystyrene beads, is good, versatile stuff.

http://www.parcel2go.com/ will compare prices with all of the main
    suspects & offer a discount

price comparison and just seems to work

  8. Really, Ta for that. Our old office in Tunbridge Wells had a big FOAD
bin of the stuff in the post room, where they chucked every left-over
bit from incoming goods. Perfect recycling. I used to raid it regularly.

The new office in the City doesn't, needless to say. They don't save
    cardboard boxes either.

Thank God for regular wine orders. We save the boxes.... Also, those
cardboard boxes that house the pouch packs of cat food are remarkably
robust and perfect for small items.

  9. Being a nearly teetotal non cat person doesn't do me any favours then.

Supplementary question: What about labeling? How do you piss heads deal
with that one, just write it on in biro or do you buy[1] special labels?

[1] I really do think I am asking the question of entirely the wrong
    demographic here.

Depends. Big black marker pen for some things. The Ebay system will
actually offer to print an address label for you. I tend to copy
verified name and address from the payment details, paste them in to
Word, increase the font size pretty big that will fit on A4 paper that
has something gash already printed on the back but small enough to fit
on the package, Print it out, cut a neat rectangle of paper and stick to
package with good quality 'selotape'. I have a spiffy dispenser which
saves the cursing when the end of the tape eludes me. I can't justify a
similar device for brown parcel tape, though you can get them. Should
buy one out of my Ebay income really, but all the Morini I don't need is
pretty much sold now. Just waiting for someone to pick up the frame.

  11. I c&p the address from their details, put it into word, and print out
three per sheet of A4 and just stick those on.

Your local garden centre will prolly have FOAD rolls of bubble wrap,
for very sensible money. Gardeners use it to insulate greenhouses and
delicat eplants over winter, apparently. That'll be fun on the bus ;-)
I usually print the label on half a piece of A4 (with "sender" in a
tiny font bototm left (and that's just house number, slash, postcode))
and sellotape it to the package. I print the receipt (most important,
inc. seller ID, item number, date of auction close, that sort of shit
so the punter has no excuse not to leave positive feedback for the
right person) on the other half of the same sheet and slip it inside
    the package.

  13. I didn't think of that.

And to keep prying eyes from gazing upon the contents thereof, so I am
    told.

If using RM, print postage label via paypal, stick on with sellotape.

If using courier, they will supply label to print.

Beware box size as well as weight.

I recently saw feedback on Amazon marketplace that went something on the
lines of 'hand written address label wasn't very professional'. I swear,
people on there think they're buying from Amazon *all the time*.

Thankfully I've never been stung by the volumetric weight thing. Yet.
Use a less pikey courier then.
