Is there anywhere decent to eat in MK? I've going from Nottingham to
Canterbury on Friday evening, and it looks like a reasonable place to stop
off for some dinner (ie, it looks about 30 seconds away from the M1) and
dodge the M25 traffic for a while.

That used to be my local when I played cricket for Wavendon Village.
Seems like it's changed a bit - hardly surprising in ten years, I
guess. Certainly easy to get to from the motorway, and a nice
    location.

The Black Horse in Woburn used to be one of our regular eating spots
    http://www.restaurant-guide.com/black-horse-the.htm. Seems like it's
still going strong. There used to be a couple of half-reasonable
places in Newport Pagnell as well, but I can't remember their names
    now.

If you are going there, be aware that they've, bizarrely, put the
wrong location in the map link
    http://www.theploughwavendon.com/contact/map.php. Looks like someone's
just centred in on the village and not realised. The correct location
    is http://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=52.026858,-0.668535

But it's actually been drawn, rather than just using google, so
someone's copied it by hand (well, mouse, more likely) and still not
    noticed.

Probably a web designer who's never even been there.

No kitchen on-site, all meals pre-prepared and just reheated on
demand. I doubt very much that this would have changed, because
there's just not any space to put a kitchen.

Having said that, some of the results were OK, and I ate there a few
times, but nothing was ever actually 'good'.

orly? That surprises me somewhat. I've had some good fish dishes there
in the past (still on their menu) and wouldn't have thought those would
be all that great if they were just reheated. But ICBW of course.

The Bekash in Stony Stratford's a pretty good Indian. Also the Jaipur in
    MK itself.

The Peking restaurant in Stony, a good Szechuan place.

There was a good fish/seafood restaurant in Stony but I can't find it.
    Must've closed.

Err, the Jaipur _is_ the one in the station building.

Ate there a few times when we lived in MK, and it was nice enough. But
TBH we were generally happier with the more 'curry-house' type places,
including the aforementioned Bekash. The Jaipur was most definitely at
the 'Indian Restaurant' end of the scale, and somewhat pretentious at
    the time.

This was >8 years ago, though, so I've no idea what they're like now.

Used to be. They built a HUGE place just down the road. I think the one
at the station is different now.

OIC. Yes, just a half-block away. Looked up the location before
previous post but failed to spot the move.

took a blunt brush and painted...
The whole place was re-done 2 or 3 years ago and went upmarket.

I've been in there a couple of times since and the food is a lot better, I
find it hard to believe they still reheat pre-prepared dishes there now.

Used to be one of my locals too until they renovated it.

Never been there since, and looking at the menu I wouldn't want to.

Last time I was in there I asked if they were doing food and the reply was
"If the missus feels like it, hang on, I'll ask her".

    Good cheap grub.

The Thai restaurant in Stony used to be really good but I've not been
there for about 4 years so it might have gone really dodgy since then.

Well I'll be happy to be corrected. Ten years ago, though, they still
presented themselves as a gourmet food venue, and their menu, and
indeed in most cases the finished product, was not inconsistent with
that claim. But I've been in their 'kitchen' and know for a fact that
    they prepared nothing fresh.

Or, in other words, they definitely only re-heated on the premises,
but they did a damned good job of it.

It may have changed now, and if you say it has I'll not argue, but
unless they've built a big extension (and google sat view suggests
not) there's just nowhere to put a full-sized kitchen.
