FOAK: Dog training and 'shock' collars

    I didn't say they were not. I was trying to add to the original comment
    by saying that in nearly all cases of cross breeding the purpose was to
    create a shape/character for specific working tasks.

    From those established breeds the pedigree and the breed standard is
    derived to which purpose the dogs are bred within the breed. The OP's
    comment seemed to suggest that a breeder could chose to breed a
    purebreed Mastif with, for example, a St Bernard to obtain a greater
    depth of body. In the case of pedigree breeding this woud be wholly
    unacceptable.
