Clearing out what was my office in preparation for it becoming my office
again I find that I have a lot [1]of bank statements and stuff that I'd
    like to destroy.

I have a shredder, but it's slowly dying anyway, and I reckon it would
take me about a week to open and unfold.

So is there somewhere / someone I can go to / contact to get this stuff
at least semi securely destroyed, as opposed to just lobbing it in the
council recycling? I don't really want to pay corporate rates.

[1] As in two 35l boxes pretty much full of neatly stacked A5 enevelopes

That's certainly an option we're considering. We have nowhere convenient

Got a log-burner? Pulp them and make logs. Free fuel.

I do this, generally a few feet from the back door with the bin on the
patio. Never bother with petrol though as a rolled up newspaper gets
the fire started, and then I just throw in a handful of paper at a
    time.

I was thinking of the same for home use. Paper, glass, plastic/
tetrabrick, organic and rejection have different containers, and it is
not a good idea to throw readable bank statements in the paper
    container.

This sounds nice for small quantities:

And this is what I can buy in my country, thanks UKRM for making me
    google :)

    Do you have a garden/allotment?

Soak in water for a month and then use to line the runner-bean trench.

Mine is more substantial than that, it would still take forever. You
have to take the contents out of the envelopes and unfold. Those things
will only do about 2 sheets at a time, and have a lousy duty cycle.
    See above.
