It's a variation on "plane crashed on the border of 2 countries, where
did they bury the survivors", just without the firing pin.
If you carry on like that, I'm going to start.

No, I got the "gag" in the first place, but thought it was an
accidental by-product of a serious query. I meant I was going to start
thinking the subject funny if you were going to go all ballistically
    intercontinental.

    Oh, WTF knows.

    Or, indeed, cares.

It's entirely possible that Switters' enquiry was totally genuine. I'm
*way* past caring. But watching Leslie go off on one is always mildly
    diverting.

I had hopes she's start a "Dead geezers I never met, but would have been
related to, who died in WWII" sub-thread. I've got pretty good shot at a
    high-score. Unfortunately, she's got distracted.

I too find that after a hard day's graft, nothing beats making a twat of
    myself on usenet.

It's a tough choice between that and a pint and a bag of scratchings.

The details of name, when and what ship are all known in ths case. The
question is that given the sheer volume of deaths, did they bother with
    issuing certs.

Nothing to whoosh, it's a genuine query. The Subject fills in the gaps
left by my perhaps ambiguous content.

The links may be useful for future stuff, thanks I'll pass them on.

In this case however, the name, rank, number, ship, date and grave (well,
headstone) are all known. A copy of the death cert is desired, but not
    known if they were issued.

  20. Wossit'sname... Salisbury House? They'd know what happened in wartime
circumstances. The deaths would certainly be recorded officially
somewhere, if for no other reason than the legalities of inheritance,
    death duties, etc.
