If a ship was sunk in WW2, would death certificates be issued for all that
    were onboard?

  5. The bureaucracy would still swing into action, so yes, iwt. Probably
issued by the MO at the home port, at a guess.

  6. There's an area on the MOD website that gives names for armed services
killed in combat. Or was this Merchant Marine?

Contact the Royal Naval Association regarding your query, would be my
    best bet.

We recently had an article in the local paper regarding trying to
locate a grave for someone lost at sea during the war (it might be of
    some use to you)

    2dfor%2dwar%2dhero%2d%2d8217%2ds%2dgrave%2d-name_page.html

It might also be worth looking at their web-site.

I don't know how useful the above would be if it was a Merchant Seaman,
though, in which case find out where your local Merchant Seamans office
    is based?

Mined ewe, this is probably a meta-woosh, but it's pissed SP off so it's

It's a sad poke at those 'lost at sea' as opposed to those who did
actually die killed in combat, perhaps. The reference WWII does imply
    a combatant idea.

Quite a lot of families were mis-informed with regard to the status of
the person concerned, ergo a number of families were just told that the
people were 'missing', rather than 'killed in action'. Or even, in
some cases, 'killed in action' because they couldn't find the bodies.

And some **** on here thinks it's funny?
