How much do you put in / cut out..

Bullet pointed lists of skills, or something more readable?

This was so easy when I'd not done much, now it's a case of what should
I filter out when most of it is still relevant one way or another.

    No, you've lost me there
Err, a K&N will filter most stuff but still let most air in.

Enough to get the relevant party interested enough to invite you for
interview so tailor the CV to the job.
Google can help with CV content however an independant critical review
of the CV before you apply would help.

I currently have 3 CV's and intend to have more, tailored to specific jobs.

If you're sending the CV to an agency then go with a list of bullet-pointed
skills, because they'll probably copy it onto their own standard template
and making it easy for them will help prevent key skills being missed off.

If, OTOH, you're posting direct to an employer then mention the most
relevant skills to the post your applying for in the description of your
    former roles.

    Good point.
Still undecided if it's going to the agency TBH, much depends on
tomorrow and my meeting with 'management'.. just getting a view from the
    rabble IYSWIM.

That's the sort of format I was thinking, with a job / projects /
customers, slant. It's making it catchy that's the trick I think, right
    now mine's just not.
Actually, that'd be cool. Thanks for the offer.

I still have to get the content worked out mind... and to get pissed off
enough to do something about it all. Which might happen tomorrow...

    With 30-odd jobs/contracts to list, as I contractor I tackled[1] this
by having a "Technical Summary" which listed my main skills by OS,
Languages, Databases etc. on the front page immediately below Personal
info and Education sections, and followed by Spoken languages and
    'Sports and Other interests'.

For a permy role, particularly in this changing world, I'd probably
change that to a "Main Skills" section or similar, to include
    non-technical aptitudes.

The second page started 'Contract/Assigment Details' and I'd always
try and limit each one to two or three lines. Older and less relevant
jobs would be editted down even more. Each entry would start with the
dates, followed by the Company name (in bold) followed by said
    description.

Don't forget that the front page is your impact space - by the time
someone turns over and looks at the detail on page 2, they've pretty
much decided if you're suitable for the role and are just looking for
evidence to support that decision. SO get as much information as you
can onto that front page, without over-crowding it.

You should ensure that your USP[2] is in some way highlighted - for
me, this was the breadth and depth of experience, so the technical
list was paramount, but you may decide to lead with management
skillsets, or something. In any event it needs to be the first thing
    that cathces the eye.

[1] Well, I still do, but it's only kept up to date for regulatory
    reasons.
[2] Unique Selling Point - i.e. what makes you more suitable for this
    job/company than anyone else.

Don't use a plastic cable tie on the bellows, use a steel wrap tie
    instead.

Oh. different sort of CV. I see.

Third person allows you to effectively say "I rock", without appearing to be
    bragging.

Second person is right out, though.
