Are you accusing me of having a 'printer purchasing' spreadsheet?

    'Cos if you are, FOYRNB.

    But I haven't. Honest.

    Cont!

And whilst I'm in a "things I should or shouldn't buy" kinda mood, tell
me why I should or shouldn't make an offer on this:

It's quite a bit newer (read: "more expensive") than I was planning
    on...

Likely a) The shop had a bad batch. Electronic stuff is likely to go
wrong almost immediately or not at all. b) By now Kodak would've
    remedied the problem.

    Maybe so.
    I couldn't give a flying ****. I'm not going to be a beta tester for a
    new model by them again.

The only thing kodak branded I will buy again is 35mm film.

Appreciate it. I should probably have had a go in France last year
when everyone else was, but I could definitely hear a beer calling my
    name.

Plus, at that point, I wasn't considering buying one.

I've got the IP4200. Every time the printer is turned on it has a clean.
Not to the level of the manually invoked one, but ink is still wasted.

I think it's more of a 'charging up' process than an actual clean. It's
not much though, my cartridges last months.

Not really, I don't do church myself, I'm actually helping my sister
    out.

  12. I don't do a lot of printing and was pissed off to find my new HP was
out of ink with very few pages printed - the old half-full trick.
A refill kit solved that problem very cheaply, but if I was doing more
printing I'd be looking seriously at CIS - which for mine is only £54
(including inks). It utterly slashes the cost per page.
In fact, I might just get one anyway and save a lot of farfing about
    refilling carts.

  14. I want a new printer that will do every day stuff plus print CD/DVDs and
decent photos. Does not cost an arm and a leg. If it's an ink jet, fit
    it with a CIS.

    Hints?

WTF is a CIS? Google brings up:

    Construction Industry Scheme
    Commonwealth of Independent States
    Council of International Schools
    Center for Internet Security
    Countryside Information System
Something to do with dairy farming
    and other non-related references.

The cheapest printer that fits that criteria is the Canon Pixma iP4600.
I have an iP4500, and it does a pretty good job.

Righto, that's better CISS brought up the relevant articles.
Yes, I gave up on Epsons because of the heads clogging all the time. The
iP4500 doesn't seem to have that trouble at all.

The CISS does seem to look like a very good solution too - what's the
ink quality like though? I never really was impressed with third party
cartridges, and have never used them in my Canon.

  17. This is the mob I'm thinking of using. You can be a guinea pig if you
    like.
    http://cheapprinterink.co.uk/Products.html
Of course, you don't need to use their ink - if you have a source of ink
    you prefer, use that.
For flyers and handouts it won't make much difference, especially if the
aim is to cut the cost.

I do both those and photos, so I do want good quality prints.

Until I downloaded that, I had to look at my calender, just to be sure I
hadn't woken up on April 1st!

That could be worth considering :)

At least it's what we'd consider here to be a 'pikey' font ;-)

Well, seeing as I need to order a couple of new carts anyway, I decided
to take a punt with one of these, and have ordered it. It's actually
cheaper than a standard set of carts anyway, so has nothing to lose.

I'll let you know how it goes.
