The Gas bloke who earlier suggested a loft installation is returning tomorrow because I was not satisfied with some of his answers. Here are some examples; ME: As there are existing services; gas, water etc., could you briefly explain why we could not re-use the same space in the kitchen for the boiler? HIM: Unable to buy old gravity feed conventional flued boilers which is not strictly true according to what I found on the web site of the office of the deputy prime minister. ME: I didn't really follow why it wasn't possible to fit a new condensing boiler in the space vacated by the old one, given that all the utilities are in the wall. HIM: Unable to site boiler in old position due to flueing options. well it'd have been nice to have some more detail. ME: Do we know for sure that the gas pipes in the house are of the required diameter for the new boiler? If not, what is the plan for routing new pipe? HIM: Yes it will be. errrmmm actually it doesn't appear to be. The old gas pipes are 15mm and the boiler maker states 22mm. Anyway Anne now remembers that he said that he was going to reuse a water pipe to carry gas from the kitchen to the loft. The water pipes are also 15mm (or maybe 1/2 inch). Am I being paranoid or is this beginning to sound a bit cowboy-ish?
