    That's not bad at all.

One to add to the list for when I kill this one, then.

I was hoping this wouldn't degenerate into another "everything ever is
based on a Golf, in one way or another" thread.
Not quite sure of the point you're making. TDis actually have crap
economy? You were driving quite swiftly? There's a hole in your fuel
    tank?

That's not all that impressive. I've managed my house to work (48 miles)
at an average of 56mph and 33mpg in a 1.8T petrol Passat.

It was a "despite driving like a complete **** I still managed mid 30's"
point (though poorly made). My old Citroen 1.9GTi would have been less
than 20mpg to have made the same time.

Average MPG in the mid 40's (lots of about town), but my typical on my
    cross-country route is about 52.

How much of that was main road and how much unclassified roads? On my
    trip it's about 50% unclassified ex-B road, 30% dual carriageway and 20%
unclassified not even an ex-B road road.

Oddly I find it's the speed that's the killer on MPG, not the driving
style. So thrashing about on a tiny road when hitting 60 is more
economical than sitting at a constant 80 in a dual carriageway.

Erm, about 5 miles of dual carriageway and 45 miles of single
carriageway A-road, with 2 miles of urban crawl at the destination.

A Mitsubishi Galant is not the same class of car as a BMW 5 series.

Or as I have convert it to LPG and get 25mpg at 33p/litre(sat at indicated
80)= ~60mpg against diesel. Insurance is just over 400 Fully comp
    protected NCD.

As TOG says, very solid build, superb seats, loads of room in front back
and boot. lots of toys to play with. late ones are well under £4K. Will
do 250K miles with minimal servicing.

    Don't be ridiculous.

Listen, I've got a Mitsubishi Magna, which is the Galant's big brother
and I know that it's not in the same class as a BMW 5 series. So
there's no fucking way the Galant is.

I used to think the Mitsubishi Sigma was one of the best looking Japanese
cars ever made and I still like the 'shark nose' Galant.

    <googles>

That Magna's an ugly bugger mind.

    Try the Mondeo Ghia-X TDCi 2.0 (130PS) or 2.2 (155PS)

I've had 4 (company cars) and my 5th is due new week. Also had an early
model Jaguar X-Type and the Mondeo is a much better car, just doesn't have
"the badge", latter X-Types are better and the Estate is especially
    interesting.

Friends that drive BMW's and Passats have been well impressed with the Ford.

Jaguar themselves made a prototype XJ6 Estate.
It does, yes. Square-ish front profile to start with, I suppose.

I quite like the Ferrari 456 that went to the Sultan of Brunei.
