Aaahhhh! Does the heart good, to see the old ukrm excuse for cack-
    handedness being trotted out again.

It needed an airing, really, it did.

You win. I'll go back to the boring estimate I've been avoiding.

I read an interview with him in the Torygraph, maybe ten-twelve years
ago (during the Clinton administration, anyway) in which he said when
you had the US Senate debating whether or not oral sex constituted
    marital infidelity, satire was impossible.

    He had a point....

Apparently there's some young American bloke who's being hailed as his
spiritual successor. Can anyone remind me of his name? Bod aged in
    late teens/early 20s, IIRC.

Indeed - when Henry Kissinger got the Nobel Peace Prize IIRC.

Hmm, two Hicks references in quick succession. You're driving me
towards my DVD collection, you know.

Oh I understand it alright and I understand that "but it says it on the
drawing" doesn't mean that the raw material actually exists in the real
    world.

... yes, that was a bite.

Hey Cane, I'll admit your new motto for the company is catchy, but it
might need a little more work.

SWMBO has one of those and it's pretty good apart from the gearchange
    being a bit shitty.

How old is yours and how is it hanging together? Much like all SAABs,
the prices seem to be falling through the floor and they're becoming
    tempting.

    <thinks>

What I really need is someone to find me a nice Aero for less than £6k
so that I can just pop over and pick it up.

ISTR Bear's is a 9-3, which is a totally different proposition to the
    9-5.

Personally, I wouldn't have a 9-3. Nice enough car, but not 'Saab'
    enough for my tastes.

With the 9-5 you get the lovely old 'burbling' Saab 2.3 Turbo engine.
The 9-3 comes with a Vauxhall engine.

Still, 9-3s are stupidly cheap, possibly even cheaper than a 9-5, so a
    bargain if they suit you.

    In communiqué
It was typed with a sense of irony. Cack-footedness in this case though.
A refresher course in cadence braking required. ABS and 'ESP' make for
    complacency.

I didn't mind the tail wag too much - all part of the RWD frisson.
I might take you up on that, but I will wait until I have had it
aligned properly before making a decision.
No, it kept straight enough. My Alfa incident was diagnosed as possibly
someone using the wrong pads on the front. Apparently the weight
distribution provided by the transaxle layout makes 75s very sensitive
    to it.

BTW, I haven't struggled so much to get an oil filter off for years.
What a little barsteward to get at. In the end, as I wanted to make sure
I could loosen off the alternator to change the auxillary belt later, I
dropped the plastic underbelly off and managed to get enough purchase
with my right hand from underneath. The OC talk about futting it on full
lock and working through the wheel arch, but I already had it up on
ramps. No way could I get my usual filter removal chain socket on to it.

Oh yes, I know his is the 9-3 and I do prefer the 9-5 but I would take
either. I've seen a 2006 9-5 Aero for less than £7k, which is just
stunning value even if the mileage is a bit high (it wasn't stated in
    the ad).

Now, if only I knew of someone who knows a bit about cars and soon might
need to make a few quid from a finder's fee.

Cheers, the budget is more to do with the cost of insurance over here.
It is fucking outrageous and it is close to impossible to get fully comp
on anything over about 3 years old, unless you have owned it from new.
I wouldn't be happy to put more than about £6k at risk on something that
    would encourage exuberance.
