    Probably because they're a size bigger - the Passat's pitched against the
    A4.

    No it ain't - the Passat is a full size up from the A4. It's actually
    got more interior space, leg(and elbow)-room wise, than the A6 Avant.

    One might argue that it places more alongside the new A5, but I don't
    think (without having tested one) that's quite as big, so possibly
    not.

    'Proper quattro' is a mechanical system with a torque sensing diff.

    Transverse engined cars (ie. Golf based stuff) use a hydraulic system.

    The main difference in road use is that the Haldex reverts to something
    like 90% FWD most of the time, whereas quattro delivers 60% to the rear
    in normal use.

    New A4 is significantly bigger than the old one - pretty much the same
    size as the current Passat.

    I don't think it really places it alongside the A5, though, 'cos the A5
    is a coupe - although you could argue the Passat CC sits in the same
    class as the A5.

    Nowt wrong with a bit of danger, cage-boy.

    If you don't want the P6000's - I can make good use of 'em on mine?

    btw did it lock up both sides? I had an issue with a sticking caliper
    resulting in one front locking up far too easily.

    Not tested one, as they came out after I'd ordered the passat.

    <googles>

    Yes, they seem to be much more similar in size, just a bit shorter, a
    bit narrower inside, a bit less cargo space. But definitely in the
    same ballpark now.
    Heh.
