I know, I know. I'm thinking of getting a decent zoom, a nice wide
angle lens and just for fun, a fish eye lens.

 

I'm jut a newbie but already I have the kit 18-55 Canon, a 10-20 Sigma
Ex which is excellent for landscapes, and a 17-85 Sigma DC to replace
the 18-55. Bit disappointed with the latter's sharpness so that'll be
replaced with a Canon "not-quite"-L-series with a similar range and
IS, and I'll also want a long zoom for the TT later this year.

I'm thinking of going minimalist and getting a Sigma 18-250 DC OS HSM
as a do-everything lens for holidays. Whilst picture quality won't be
quite as good as a bag full of lenses I reckon it'll be good enough
for most things.

OK, I might take the 50mm f1.8 as well..

Failing that, I've no doubt that I'll be listing a similar lens in the

I disagree. If I want a do-everything, I'll take a compact for
holiday snaps. I don't see any point in having the expense and size
of an SLR and not making best use of it. Picture quality is
everything to me, as I'm interested in the photography more than the
subject.

 

Can't do it now I'm afraid, simply don't have the money available
until (if!) my bonus comes through. Thanks anyway, but can't commit
yet.

 

So you spent £800-1000 on a camera and then took a chance on some dodgy
Far East import in order to save £30.

 

I can see where you're coming from but it's still a shed load better
than a compact, has decent IS, and right now I can't justify blowing a
wodge of money on the 70-200 F4L IS, dispite liking the idea of owning
one.

The trouble with the Gadget Show recommendations is that you need to see
the criteria by which something is measured. Sometimes they seem to rate
some ridiculous feature that only they care about that week.

They also think that PCs can only run Windows.

And that Jason guy can't snowboard for shit, but thinks he's great.

 

Get the f2.8 the f4 isn't anything like as good.
