FOAK - buying online fridge

We need to buy a new fridge. We know exactly the model we want and it
is by far cheapest at UK Domestic Applicances
(ukdomesticappliances.co.uk). We tried to get John Lewis to match the
price but they won't. So, has anyone here bought from this company? It
would be nice to know before committing nearly 250 quid.

These three people wouldn't buy from them again:

After my experience with 24-7 Electrical I'd rather pay a few pounds
more and get it locally. FWIW I found that Argos were almost as cheap as
anybody, and don't charge excessively for delivery.

Agreed, but here the price difference is more than 40 quid, and we are
    really strapped at the moment.
Argos hasn't got the model we want though.

Thanks for that, though buyer 1 says he's giving them another
    chance...

If you're unsure about the retailer make sure you pay by credit card.

Just been through that recently with a dish washer. Found that the large
electrical retailers only had certain items in stock so you still had to
wait for delivery, so I was ready to order online anyway.

Eventually went to Costco, mainly because of the no quibble returns
policy (they don't take credit cards) and the ability to walk out of the
shop with the item after parting with the cash.

Post a message to the forums on www.moneysavingexpert.com saying what
the exact model and price is, there are a lot of bargain hunters on
there so there's bound to be one with experience of them.

Tesco is quite often the most expensive for electricals. If I'd bought
my DVD/Hard disk recorder from them it would have been ukp600. I found
it elsewhere (empiredirect) for just over half that. You don't make
billion pound profits from always being the cheapest.

  11. Ach, you shoulda been in the Uxbridge Tesco this afternoon -- they
had a coupla dozen tubs of hummous in the "Reduced Price" section when I
was there. The reduced-fat type, but I was still sorely tempted. But I
have to watch my diet these days, and I already had a litre of Bells!
Scored an R-P tub of chicken breasts in Italian tomato & basil sauce instead.

I would suspect that they'd use a lower fat oil, rather than olive oil,
    yes.

Bloody repulsive idea anyway (a "low fat" version) , on the grounds that
hummus is pretty good for you anyway; high protein, high fibre, low
saturated fat, Mediterranean diet type food. Love the stuff, and thanks
to lisp, I now have a recipe that actually works, rather than one that
produces tasteless polyfilla, so I tend to keep a can or 3 of chickpeas
in the house as I know I'll almost certainly have the rest of the
    ingredients to hand.
    [/QUOTE]
Ooh, don't suppose you could mail me the recipe? I seem to go through
tubs of the stuff! I tried a recipe a while back but it didn't really
work out very well, so I've been back on Sainsbury's.

We bought from them about 3.5 years ago and had no lasting problems - one of
the items delivered had been damaged in transit and was replaced with no
    quibbles within a week.

No, it's not a common model - a Zanussi tall larder fridge - and they
    don't have it. Thanks anyway.

Thanks, but tried them - they have a similar model to what we want,
    but much more expensive.

  20. Can I just lay a few misconceptions to rest?

Oil is oil. There is no such thing as a low or lower fat oil. Right? It
    does not exist.

I don't think you can reduce the pure fat content of oil whatever you
do. People can and do, however, make low fat spreads and mayonnaise by,
essentially, adding water and emuslifier and whipping. You cannot do
    this to oil.

Saturated or unsaturated fats - that's a different matter. Some oils are
lower in one or the other, and some are lower or higher in hydrogenated
oils which (I think) are turned into transfatty acids in processed
    foods.

There *is* truth in saying that high fat foods tend to taste better.
This is because fat is a flavour transmitter. Interestingly, alcohol is
used as a flavour and fragrance carrier too. This is why it's the base
of most perfumes, and why a wine with a high ABV content tends to taste
nicer than one with low ABV.

So eat fatty foods and drink strong wine. You may not live as long but
your palate will thank you for it.
