Having got the broadband working I want to buy (or steal) a few tracks from
my youth - beginning with All Along The Watchtower.

What site(s) do I go to? After googling I've been offered a staggering array
of sites, some from Russia, thus I am cautious.

I wouldn't bother. It's not like you'll have any bandwidth for downloads.

I'll have another Marston's Double Drop, ta.

Another beer reference. This puzzles me.

Also - The Tiscali connection seems to offer decent speed and should be
suitable to download the 20 tracks (or so) that I need to complete the
limited musical memory of my teenage years.

  5. There's a proper place for test posts, so if you post them here - no
matter how cleverly disguised - your owe the group a round of drinks.

Still puzzled - but less so thanks to your reply. In what way was my
original question a test post? I refer to broadband not to test the
connection but to explain why after several years of posting to this group I
am now able to download big files in less than n (1) minutes.

My question may have been poorly put but I really do want to know of a
reliable site for downloading some 60s music.

    (1) Where n is more than 10.

seems the thing to do these days is buy the CD, at least you get a
decent quality copy and it's often cheaper than downloading it from
itunes etc anyway, for some reason. If you decide you don't like it
then flog it on Ebay and get your cash back :)

  10. What are you? New around here or something? Look, just because you state
what you believe are facts, doesn't mean UKRM will let them get in the
    way of a good story.

You copould always try the Newsgroups.

    alt.binaries.sounds.1960s
    ditto 1970s and ditto 1980s

I've had NO virii in many years of using NG's for stuff and you can request
    just about anything too.

  13. I use this...
www.3v.ie for online purchasing where I don't want to expose my normal
    plastic, especially from dodgy locations.
There must be a UK equivalent.

There are prepay cards available in the UK - mainly targetted at under 18s
who cannot open a credit card account.

I wouldn't bother with such a card as there are significant fees. Also,
almost all UK banks provide an internet indemnity where they underwrite any
    fraud e.g http://new.egg.com/visitor/0,,3_11081--View_1766,00.html -
probably goes some way to explain why internet shopping is becoming so
    popular here.
