FOAK - buying an expired domain

Any recommendations on the best way to do this please? There's a .com
domain that's currently in it's redemption period that I'd rather like.

There seem to be services by godaddy, snapnames, enom and pool to
mention a few, but some of them look a bit dodgy to say the least.

Anyone tried it?

 

I've used these guys before to grab a couple of domains away from a
competitor www.detagged.co.uk - UK based, not expensive and very
helpful.

At the moment, I'm wary to even type the name I want into any site to
'search' for it, in the fear the buggers will hold it to ransom.
