FOAK: BT Line ReConnection

We have bit the bullet and are sacking NTL for Sky instead. Hence we need to
    order a BT socket.

The bad news is our "BT" previous line between the coupling junction box
just inside our entrance, and the upstairs main extension has been cut.
I had a look at the mini-junction box near our entrance (which seems ok on
the external route fortunately, so its only the cabling from the extension
socket to the coupling close to the outside that needs reestablishing)

There is another cable coming from a junction paring of the phone socket,
perhaps for an extension cable but thats cut very short. I could actually
work out what pins each are coming from I guess, although as both are cut it
    would be pretty irrelevant.

I know there are ex BT people who charge competitively, we are already
paying £125 ish for reconnection but I just wonder what re-establishing the
socket might cost as it sounds like we will be charged extra, and whether
its worth outsourcing it, or Diy-ing it before they BT engineer visit?

I know **** all about BT pairs though, but knowing **** all about something
    hasn't stopped me before.
I guess its quite possible that the info is on the web though e.g
    http://www.gbnet.net/net/uk-telecom/p3-1.html
Is is possible to get BT standard cabling also, I imagine this is the stuff
    http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?cId=A331797&ts=54216&id=18134

    Cheers

Thanks. Although the sockets have the "T" logo though, they don't appear
recent enough to even have a BT stamp though. I actually think they could be
    some other provider.

(BT are insistent that they have record of a BT line on the premises,
    though).

The 125 notes should cover everything you need to reconnect, including
    sorting out buggered wiring.

  5. Hmm, I'm sure I saw a socket with a BT logo in my shed[1] the other
night. I'll have another look (if I remember) to see if it might be useful.

[1] Inherited with the house. I've still no idea what-all is in there. I've
not set foot in the loft, either, but it looks interesting from the hatch...

True. If it gets any more complicated than that I think I'm still entitled
to can the idea, stick with NTL and kick their arse into line on their
billing to a much more reasonable figure. But I would expect a BT line to be
    reasonably straightforward.
However f BT suggest its another £100 or so they can stick it.

Oh good thanks for the heads up. If not I'll think I might can the idea, as
I have the right to do that before they start work.

  8. Looks like it's not an NTE5. Very similar to the LJU2/1A
http://www.telephonesuk.co.uk/line_jacks.htm but the faceplate has the
prancing poofter BT logo on the top left and "PCS" on the top right.
If yer wannit, send me an address.

Thanks for the trouble, but thats what it might land me in if its
non-standard. I have no idea what a PCS mark on the socket means.
