It woud appear that despite migrating to idnet, I'm still logging on
    to Pipex.

I thought it was supposed to be seamless. Ho hum.

Reading the bumph from idnet, it says:

"Unless you have ordered pre-configured hardware from us you will need
    to
configure your hardware with your IDNet broadband user details as
    listed
    below.

Username : (username must be entered in
    lowercase)
    Password : xxxxxx

    Primary DNS Server: 212.69.xx.x
    Secondary DNS Server: 212.69.xx.x

Your static IP Address: 91.xxx.xx.xx (255.255.255.255)

Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: smtp.idnet.com "

The question is - where do I put this information?

    Pipex have (probably not unreasonably)
"temporarily suspended" my access to the internet.

Into your router (or adsl modem) somewhere.

Usually the router has a webpage - summat like http://192.168.0.1 will
often get you there if you are lucky.

In your email account settings (there should also be a pop3 server you
    have info for)..
...and then in the connection settings of your router.
This should be retrieved automatically by the router.. don't worry about
    it.
    In your emial client.

Router or modem? This info goes into the router via the onboard web
interface. http://191.168.0.1 in the address-bar for most makes. Modem?
**** knows, I've never owned one but I imagine it goes somewhere in the
    windows/linux/macOS settings?

  6. It's networks innit. If it was seamless there would be starvation on
the streets as all the techies get fired.
DSL setup on your DSL router - same place as you configure the VC
    information.

    Far better to do start>run>command
    ipconfig

Then point browser at the default gateway address

What is this start>run>command of which you speak? Something akin to
opening an X-terminal or ctrl-alt-F1 for a CLI?

It's a bit like that, only less tedious.

X-terminal? Don't you mean, plug in your vt220, wire up pins 2, 3 and
ground. Swear at it a lot. Swap pins 2 and 3 over. Swear again. Try
every possible baud rate parity bit combination possible. Try endless
null modem combinations until eventually you get it working?

I recently set up just the very same for a friend.
As other have said, use the browser to go to your router's adminsitration
pages, and enter these details in where it's asked for. You may need to
select the PPPoa mode (or something), but I found with the linksys router,
    I just accepted the defaults.
Don't worry about these. Set the router up to get the information
dynamically. This was my first mistake, trying to set the details up
    myself, and it wouldn't take.

<vbg> that takes me back. Remember the excitement when speeds leapt from
    110 to 300 baud?

Ta. (and to everyone else who stifled the giggles long enough to
    reply)

I suspect I might get 'phoned up and moaned at by Pipex, which is a
    pretty unusual state of affairs.
