Do you have to have a new olive each time you undo the banjo bolts from the
hose itelf? yes its a thick question but tonight i was just about to put the
finishing touches to the disc brake as ive put a right angle banjo bolt
coming off the resevoir then into the headset.

however, you need to strip the coating slightly off the hose, then slip over
the nut, put in a wee brass olive and do it up.

On first attempt it went on but i tightened it quite a bit and the hose
twisted so thought id undo it and shorten the hose to get rid of the twisted
    and probably damaged bit.

However, it looks like the olive has shaped to the inner of the nut and on
retightening the hose was easily dislodged from the banjo bolt.
Im assuming i need a new one each time the hose is retightened?

You got me confused here. The bolty bit going trough the banjo
into the caliper or master cylinder is the "banjo bolt". The part
you talk about is just the "banjo".

In my experience this is what happens if you cut back the steel
braid too far. The inner hose is teflon and very slippery. You
can tighten down the nut all you want but if the olive does not
get a grip on the braid, the hose will slip out.
Thinking about it, I wonder if you're not supposed to hold the
nut still and turn the banjo fitting? That way you avoid twisting
    the braid.

I would not expect the olive to be destroyed after one single
tightening but OTOH, I'd be worried enough to take a real good
look at it as brakes can be a good thing to have sometimes.

ah! see I did tell ye i was a numpty when it comes to these things :)
I didnt cut back the braid at all, more stupidity on my part? I only cut
back the plasticy coating over the braid.
    Never thought on that! Bugger
Hmmmm as i know to my detriment which is why im quite happy to make a ****
of myself and ask for advice rather than the alternative :)
