Whenever I try to access a google map (either via Google, or from some other
website using their API), or it seems, a Microsoft Live Map, my internet
connection dies. It seems to be something particular to my computer, as it
doesn't wipe out the internet for other machines using my router. Using the
repair connection option on the Wifi connection fixes things until the next
time... The wifi connection still shows as being fine whilst it's broken.

Any ideas? I'm running XP for what it's worth.

  2. Sounds like you need to reset the security level , go to tools or options click on
the advanced tab and see what you have disabled

Is that an Internet Explorer thing? I'm running Firefox...

The first thing I look for on the map generally comes up, but zooming in or
moving about doesn't generally work. Because the internet has packed up.

Check your firewall they do strange things sometimes
    Check your popup blocker
    Check your cookies

Can you download large files ok, or watch streaming video (iPlayer
etc), if not it might be any large batches of data that are giving
    your machine issues?

    Try downloading from here.

    http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Have you tried the same machine over a wired connection? Is there an
update for the wireless card (try Custom rather than Express on
Windows Update and look for hardware update).

If it's a desktop, try removing and re-seating the wireless card (with
the machine off and observing anti-static precautions of course). ;-)

The Google Maps Help Group occasionally gets similar plaintive messages.
    Here is the latest one:

Apparently it may be that the volume of data can look like a SYN attack.
