FOAK: Bar end weight problem - HELP?

Can anyone help me sort this problem?

My RHS bar weight came loose, the other day. I tried tightening the screw,
*gently*, but it just kept rotating, rather than pulling in and nipping
    up.

I gently pulled on the weight and it slid out into my hand. Arse!

If you look at the link, below and scroll to the bottom right corner,
you'll see an exploded view of the arrangement:

    http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/300_0285/handlebar/handlebar.cfm?man=su&groupid=4800&parent=4740

I've looked down the bar and there's a rubber left inside (6) and, the nut
    (obviously).

I've taken the screw (3) and tried to get it to catch the thread, but no
go. I've tried to extract the rubber, using the screw and sideways
pressure, while pulling, but no go.

Anyone any (serious) ideas how to sort this?

Sorry, but just leave the stuff in there and buy new bits to replace
    them.

You need a nice Snap-On Mini bottom hose hook to get the rubber out.
I've got one here. The rubber will have part bonded to the inside of the
bar, you need to break the seal and hook it out. Run a small electrical
screwdriver round the outside of the rubber and then try to remove it.
once it's out reassemble the whole bar end as one bit, insert up the bar
    and screw the thing tight.

Hmm.... not sure if there's enough room, with the bend being so close.....

Considered that, but it's a rather narrow 'ole in the middle of the rubber
    - not entirely sure there's enough room to allow a big enough hook to pass
    through.

    <wanders off to check again>

    Hmm....

<wonders where to find suitable wire, having no wire coathangers>

Wonder if Ma will notice if I nick one of hers....?

What you need sir is a thick ish welding rod with all the flux chipped off
and bent 90 degrees at one end, small a bit as possible. Then fettle back to
a small little hook and go fishing . I had exactly the same problem on my
b12 and overcame it using above method. If memory serves me right i then
glued the nut to the rubber for future shenanigans. If my digital camera
hadn't packed up when i was about to photograph my daughter in her school
concert i would of sent you a pic of my hook !

I think most people around here would much rather see the pics of your
    daughter[1]

BTW we post at the bottom round here, & snip sigs, & snip irrelevant
    text etc etc.

  9. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Fr Jack amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
Get a long(er) bolt with the same size thread as the one that came out
and screw it in, then, whip it out with some manly pliers.

    Sorted it, this evening.

Made a hook and tried to yank it. No joy.

Got a bar and gave it a gentle push, then tried the hook, again. Bingo!

The nut had become detached, so I just hoiked the bike over on its side
and rapped the bar a couple of times. Job done.

Not put it back, yet... lack of light.....

Going to do the same with the nut.... and the washer on t'other side of
    the rubber.

Re: your posting - please take krusty's advice - that's how we do it, here

There's no need to. If you assemble it correctly and don't remove the
bolt completely when you take the bung off next time, it won't fall
    apart.

I didn't take it apart, I noticed it had worked loose, while on the
trailer. Tried tightening and ended up with bits in me hand.

Still - all sorted, now, ta.
