If I've got a DXF of an image, in this case a snow flake, is there a
way by which I can measure the amount of cutting lines in the image?

Basically I need to know how many metres of cutting there will be for
    each shape.

    TIA

Probably the easiest way is to convert it to a Polyline (if it isn't
    one already).
    Select the polyline.
    Right click
Go to properties and there will be a Length listed there - probably in
    mms :)

I'm *cough* years[1] out of date with AutoCad but IIRC if the entity
were a polyline it would be quite straightforward. There seem to be
tools to allow you to export the length properties to Excel (eg
    http://www.exefind.com/innersoft-cad-for-autocad-2006-P27077.html),
though I'd be suprised if AutoCad couldn't do this itself.

Doesn't your tool part programmer quickly tell you the profile length -
but then I guess you'd have the program done by then.....

    [1] probably decades ffs

Ok, I've got the image open as a dwg. How do I convert it to a
    polyline?

    Type <pedit>
then select any line in the shape
then answer <y> to the prompt (Object is not a polyline do you want to
    turn it into one)
then enter <j> at the option prompt (Join)
then at the [select objects] prompt select the whole shape with a
window or crossing box (make a mental note of how many items you've
    selected)
hit return and note how many segments have been added to the polyline
    - it should be 1 less than the number you selected.
    Job done.
Any problems, e-mail the dxf file to me and I'll sort it out for you :

At this point it says [Object selected is not a polyline] but doesn't
ask it I want to convert it.

This is AutoCAD 2007 if that makes a difference

    [ps] taken to email

Next to the cock pictures? "How do I calculate the girth of this in
    AutoCad?"

Measure the circumference of your wife's mouth, that should give a
    rough guide ;-)
