OK, so following on from the 4wd convertible question, J's looked
around a bit and come across this ... oh, it's gone. Well anyway, it
was a brand new (150km) 3.2 quattro roadster priced at 45000 chf,
quoting a list price of 73000. Found another one now, with 328km on
the clock, registered last month, sold as second hand and with just 12
    months warranty
    http://www.autoscout24.ch/as24web/Detail.aspx?id=6853120

So I know that the 3.2 is now discontinued, but WTF? That's not much
more than half the list price for only 328km on the clock. Anyone know
of very recent model changes that might justify these stupidly low
prices? Or any other info at all on TTs in general.

As daft as this sounds, it depends how tall you are, i'm six foot three &
whilst there is loads of headroom with the roof up or down, the top rail of
the windscreen surround was right in my field of view.

I like them personally & the 3.2 engine is bloody great, no idea why they
    are so cheap.

I hear they munch tyres & fuel, but so what, 32k buys a lot of tyres & fuel.

We sat in one at the weekend, and it seemed to be OK for me, although
seats not as comfortable as those on my VW R36, which are now
identical on the A5, and probably other new Audis.
    Heh.

What are these 'points' of which you speak?

The smaller engined turbo charged one was a much more likely candidate
for that pointage than the 3.2. You can with a bit of restraint drive the
3.2 sensibly whereas the (1.8?) turbo required mucho right foot for all
    occaisions.

    Really?

Currently they do two 2.0 litre ones with 4wd, both turboed, one
giving 211PS and the other 260 or so. This latter must be a hoot, as
it'll be somewhat lighter than the 250PS V6 in the 3.2, although
neither is a quick on paper as the R36. We were thinking of the 211PS
one if buying new, but the 3.2 has a certain more leisurely appeal,

I think Dave was implying that the smaller engine needs more revving,
hece you tend to thrash it and probably go faster, whereas the bigger,
torquier lump allows a slightly less frenetic driving style.

Certainly fits with my experience - when you know that the engine will
just go, at any revs in any gear (and indeed with the DSG this is even
more true) you don't feel the need to bounce it off the rev limiter
    all the time.

I've got the 1.8T in my Leon and it doesn't need revving. Well, not
unless you call 2000rpm (where the turbo kicks in) revving, anyway.
There's just a steady surge from there to the redline.

Yes, I do call that revving.
The 3.6 VR6 in the R36, and I'm assuming the 3.2 in the Audi, will
pull cleanly and strongly from 1000rpm, and almost certainly develops
more torque than the turboed tiddler all the way up to 4-5000 rpm.
Means I can just leave it in the highest possible gear at all times,
    which also helps with economy.

The DSG helps too, of course.

Well, that one's now sold as well, but chatted with the dealer who
tells me that they've been sat in German Audi showrooms for two years,
but now need to be shifted. He's trying to find another one for us.

But hold on isn't that a 2 seater in ragtop form? I thought you wanted a 4
    seater.

Don't Saab sell an all wheel drive Cab variant on the Continent?

They hold price remarkably well in the UK if RHD, LHD is cheap as chips. I
guess they were not so popular in your locale.

Nope. 2 seat, or 2+2, is fine. The A5 cabrio we looked at didn't
really appeal. Anyway, we're keeping the R36 for load- and
    people-lugging.
Not that I could find, no. I'll have another search though.

Aha. That's why the big discount, then. They're 2007/8 cars, just on 2010
plates. Might also explain the short warranty.

Indeed. But only about the same price as a used one of the same age
with 20000km on the clock. I'm slightly miffed now, so hoping we can
find another one at that sort of price. The same spec on a new one
(with the 2.0T motor) will be close to 80000chf, so the 45000 being
    asked seems well worthwhile.

I'd rather have one that's been in use to one that's been sat around
    doing nothing, tbh.

Why? Aluminium doesn't rust, and an engine full of clean oil won't
corrode. What wrecks cars is things like salted roads.

Well I checked various national sites and they all confirm what Adrian
said - the 9.3X estate is the only 4wd one they do.

They definitely do XWD in the saloon and the "non-X" (9-3X is the
slightly beefy "soft-roader" - think Allroad/XC70) estate shells, too.
    Just not the convertible.

Might be just a "...yet" on there, since they've been shifting
convertible production from Austria to Sweden.
