Yesterday I went to Waltham Abbey sport-related and
obviously went on me shiny bike [1]. Park the bike
at the local leisure park, Towns Mead, car park, nice
and orderly in a defined parking bay. After the games
I sit in the club house having a chat and a nice cup
of coffee. Eventually I decided it was time to head
back home. Step out to find a few people gathered around
my bike. No it wasn't the striking beauty of the Transalp,
which drew the crowd, but the fact that a little bit
earlier someone reversed their Landrover into it thus
toppling it over. The driver then sent his wife(?) into
the club house, she went up to the bar and informed them
of the incidence. The barstaff points out to the woman
that the owner of the bike sits about 15 feet away.
She turns around leaves and they drive off.

When I assessed the damage it's as follows.

Left fairing cracked, front fairing cracked from when
the tried to lift it up using the windshield, which
is pulled out of it's fixings. Handlebar mounts half
ripped off and the entire handlebar twisted. Left switch
block loose and wobbly, both mirrors swivelling happily
in their mounts, but at least not cracked.

Now, obviously I'm not a happy bunny and am currently
wondering what precise course of action to embark on.

I have some witnesses, but they can't remember the number
plate. The barstaff says, the woman was a regular and
her name is Cindy. I left my contacts with them hoping
they will get in touch with me, but not having much hope
on that one. I have witnesses and contacts of these, for
the damage done to the bike. There may be the off chance
that a CCTV camera has caught some of the action.

What would peeps here recommend me doing, apart from a
    killing spree through lower Essex.

Shall I inform plod, just to have it reported? Try to
persue the name and address of the driver through the
vague possibility that they may come forward?

    ....?

god damn yes! If it was my bike, Id be taking every route possible to make
sure that these fuckers coughed up.

Get the name and addresses of witnesses and try and findd out who the ****
owned the 4wd. Names and addresses of those that herd said woman confess at
    bar would be good too.

All of the above seem like common sense to me.....

Someone who knows something about any laws that may have been broken will be
    along soon.....

"PeterT" <> somehow managed to post:

Straight away, and try to get witness addresses ASAP while it's fresh
    in their minds.

Ask at the leisure centre if they would mind (you) putting up a big
shiny notice, in a prominent place, asking for witnesses to contact
    you or the police.

Well, so would I like to, but maybe I'm a bit more cynical/realistic
about the likelihood to actually achieve something.
I'll try to do so, but it's a tad difficult as it's all
about 70+ miles away from where I live.

I sincerely doubt that plod will actually bother and most likely tell
me that there's not much they can do.

I have some contacts, but not all.

That may be an idea, but probably difficult to exercise as it's a
fair distance away from me, and I have no transport anymore.

But maybe I can rally some ukrm support here, to put up the
notice. I'm sure somebody here must life fairly close to
    Waltham Abbey. Hmm, darsy maybe.

Leaving the scene of an RTA is a criminal offence and that is exactly
what has happened to your bike. The same thing happened to my brother,
when plod explained to the lady in the 4x4 that she was going to be
charged she admitted liability and her ins co. forked out.

Only an offence if someone was hurt I think.

    <google/>

Looks like you can leave the scene if nobody was hurt but if you
haven't swapped details at the scene then you have to report it.

    http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/roads/roadtraf.htm

According to the info here, the Police think that Peter should report
it to them with whatever information he has.

    Call me Timo,
About a month ago, the same thing happend to my bike while it was parked
    outside.

I got the offender's number and ran down the road after him. An
undercover copper saw me chasing him, had him stopped, and later on came
    and interviewed me.

His intention is to charge the fuckwit with Leaving The Scene Of An
    Accident, which carries 5-11 points.

Personally, since he knocked my bike over while manoevring out of a
yellow-line 'parking space' next to it, I'll be urging the copper to add
Driving Without Due Care And Attention and Being A Twat in A Public
    Place to the list.

My bike has now been knocked over 5 times and stolen twice while in the
    road outside my flat.

  18. Yes, as all else has said.

The fact that it's not on the public highway matters nothing.

Which is what I did yesterday afternoon, to find the policeman
taking the report very helpful. They will forward it to Essex
Police, who will, according to him, try to contact the driver
via the leisure centre bar-staff. Not sure what will come out
but it sounds at least like they may be successful. Now I have
to wait and see, I suppose. Question is, is it OK for me to try
and get it sorted and then if lucky, recover the costs from the
driver/his insurance, or do I have to wait?

Ah splendid, I most certainly will let you know. Hopefully, as
I informed plod now and they will inquire at the club house, that
will produce enough incentive for the driver to come forward.
