What is the DB of 40 inch TFT televisions now? anyone know. Primary
use watching DVD and HD DVD/TV

I'm looking at the Sony KDL 40Z4500 which seems like pretty amazing kit.
Pricey compared to a lot of other stuff though so I want to be sure!

We've got the Samsung 40" 1080p (series 5) which is very, very nice.
Always go for the 100Hz version of whatever you like as it will give
better results on the low-bandwidth digital pictures.

I ran a thread on TVs here recently, and concluded that a Plasma at that
size might be a better choice. I got a Panasonic 37" Plasma from Amazon
for £420, having previously looked at 32" LCDs.

Some Googling found a variety of comments for both, but generally LCDs
are brighter, but can suffer with the ghost trail on moving action, and
    show pixelation on poor sources.

The Plasmas tend to be less bright, so can suffer in a brightly lit
room, and in daylight. I haven't found this a problem though.

Energy comsumption on the later models is pretty similar now, mine is
rated at about 180W in normal use, 0.8W on standby. I think LCDs are a
    little better, but not much.

If you want to see a really nice screen, have a look at the Pioneers.

Finally, as suggested, have a look instore to see the differences.
However, the ones I looked at still had poor sources for reviewing, and
most of the sets do have a 'Display' setting which boosts the colours
    and contrast.

Try get to see a few in the flesh. When looking for a 42" LCD I ended up
with a 42" Panasonic plasma (IIRC a TH-42PZ80B) and I'm yet to see a TV with
a better picture than this one IMHO - really, really happy with it.
Arguably a Pioneer of course, but they're mega bucks and I couldn't find one
on display anywhere heh. For that use though, those in the know would
definately tell you to get a plasma I suspect. My only gripe is that one
of the 3 HDMis is under the front panel as opposed to round the back with
the others. I don't have a use for the 3rd one anyway (PS3 and Xbox cover
all HD stuff unless I decide to get Sky HD - then I'll get a remote switch
box an progam it into my Logitech Harmony so you don't

http://www.avforums.com/ is the FOAK when it comes to this stuff - all
    questions can be answered there.

I have the top Panasonic 50" HD plasma but too big for the room so it's
coming to work for a new life attached to the Diagnostic systems in an
MDT suite. A 40 will do.
