OK do any of the networks provide a service which is actually WAF? This
'ere Orange service is never more than dog slow, regularly slows to zero,
drops completely for minutes and so is a waste of fucking space.

I've got Orange and Vodafone ones from work. In some places one
works, and some the other. York was particularly crap for Voda,
whereas Edinburgh is fine. O2 was good in York though, but shit in
    Edinburgh.

All are fine in Her Majesty's Glorious Birmingham.

They may well do. IME generally the chance of having a decent signal
is inversely proportional to the necessity.

Err, I hate to tell you this Ben but you *are* at the top of a bloody
    big hill.

Go and drink beer in the Kings House while you're up there. The beer's
normally pretty good and so is the food.

Whereas in the Highlands where I currently am (top end of Glen Coe
somewhere), Vodafone is merrily connected to the interwebs for me.
Not strong enough for video Skype, but perfectly usable.

The Orange signal isn't stunning, but the webs on the phone is fine
    too.

Must just be lucky because normally around here I've had to walk up a
bloody big hill to get a signal.

I've always found them pretty good. Certainly much better than Orange or
T-Mobile (the other two operators I've been with).

I'm stopping North Ballachurlish. Walking the Mamores over the next
    couple of days.

Having just returned from the wilds of the north country, where getting
a signal at all was more than just a lottery, in that getting two bars
of signal strength was greeted like a lottery win and the car instantly
bristled with phones all trying to grab it - hilltops were not the
place to go. Unless a mast was visually discernible (and even that
didn't guarantee a signal even though we had all the major networks
represented between us) the best signal was in the valleys where more
    people would benefit from it.

See, normally, I'd agree with you, but in the valleys rounds here
    _there_aren't_any_people.

So line of sight to a mast from the top of a hill is best.

Ah. That's often a bit of a snag.
As long as that mast carries your provider, I'll give you that. Bloody
    uncivilised savages.

Requirement when hillwalking (for me anyway) is a couple of mobiles
    from different providers.

As it was, I was happily Facebooking from the top of a couple of
    Munros yesterday.
