Flywheel /alternator destruction GPZ 500s

  1. Hi,

Not much help received on this problem in UKRM or the Kawa group, so
    I'll rephrase it and repost....

A little research has revealed that the A4 500s alternator magnets in
the flywheel of the A4 engine, had a habit of coming adrift and jamming
    themselves against the stator.

It has just happened to me.... Several of the magnets have minced
themselves up in there, but I think a replacement rotor would fix that
part of the problem. The stator poles look as if they could be
straightened up sufficiently and the actual coil windings look
    undamaged.

My real concern is the fine bits of shredded ferrite material, which
may have been carried through into the oil and finding a suitable
replacement flywheel. Is it usual to just clean out the bits from the
alternator case and fit a new (improved) flywheel, assuming I can find
    one?

Anyone know of a source for the improved flywheel, assuming clearing
    the bits out is acceptable?

I am still stumped on finding a way to get the D1 version of the engine
to work in the A4 frame, due to the fact that the D1 has a single
ignition pickup coil. The A4 has a two pickups and a completely
different flywheel design, but an identical stator. The ignitors of the
two models are also different. I have tried moving the two pickups over
to the A4 engine, which didn't help. It simply refused to start.

Thanks for that contibution, the supplier of the D4 has agreed to a
refund if I am unable to make use of it. I'll see if I can find a
    knowledgeable Kawasaki dealer.
