Flyscreens

I've got a fairly long trip[0] to do on the Bandit in the summer, and
while I'm sure I could sit at the ton for a reasonable length of time,
I'm wondering if adding a flyscreen would make things slightly more
    comfortable.

Something like this is what I had in mind:
    http://www.trickbitsdirect.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/301

Bearing in mind that I'm about 6'2" or 6'3", is it actually going to
make life easier? Or is it just going to direct even more wind blast at
    my head?

Anybody got any experience of adding a flyscreen to a naked bike? Any
    recommended makes or styles?

[0] About 850 miles each way, if MapPoint can be believed.

.... you could just beat me up and take my bike. It's got a screen and a
    fairing and everything.

Oh and a super-torquey 599cc engine, for effortless motorway crusing.

Doesn't really look as if it will help much does it?
When despatching I used something like the SS-24 here
www.slipstreamer.com/Product/Sport/sport.html which broke all the wind
and weather. It could be mounted or removed in 10 minutes.

Yeah, but it's *tiny*. I'd need to carry a crowbar to get my legs off it
    when we stopped.
Ummm... I see your point. I'll just shut up and stop complaining, shall I?

    Probably not.
But it's *hideous*. It's nearly as bad as that huge thing that was on
the GT, which was about the only thing that got destroyed when I chucked
    it up the road.

My brother put a small flip screen on his ZRX - similar in size to a
flyscreen, I'd guess. He said it made 80mph crusiing much easier.

    80mph? I don't think I notice any problem cruising at 80, really. But I
suppose I might on that length of journey.

I think I might see if I can score one really cheap off eBay, then I can
give it a go and if it turns out to be crap I haven't wasted too much money.

  8. I have some experience of taking one off a GSX 1400. When I bought the bike
it had one already fitted, and the ride was incredibly noisy because of the
redirected wind blast. I took it off and everything got very much quieter.

The only benefit of having one seems to be that it will keep the dead bugs
    off the instrument casings.

Ah you didn't say you wanted to look cool as well. That's what the 10min
bit is about. WTF does it matter how it looks anyway. Forgot to mention,
you want steering dampers with handlebar mounted screens.

Slipstreamer Inc. does not sell direct to the public. Check with your
local retailers, mail order or online sellers for their prices.

    I wasn't expecting miracles but there's a difference between "I think it
looked better without it" and "Ged, that's hideous".
Depends how big they are, doesn't it? Hence going for a small flyscreen,
rather than the full handlebar-mounted patio door.

That's what I'm thinking. Compared to the Falco, it doesn't seem to be
that much more hard work at ~100mph, but the Falco's screen was *very* low.
But you still have to clean them off the flyscreen anyway.

Yeah but with the patio door you can have a foam stick on cup holder on
your tank and drink Latte in comfort. Probably velcro sarnie holders
    too.

They do have the considerable attraction of being able to wear an open
face lid without silly goggles but no fear of high speed insects

I'm sure Baglux do an attachment for that, don't they?
That would need to be a *huge* screen to keep them right out of my face,
though. Even the monstrosity that was on the GT was barely higher than
my sight line, and that was massive.

Anyway, surely having an excuse to wear silly goggles is one of the
major benefits of an open face lid?

That was the thing. He put it on for a trip to Germany so he could
sustain 80-90 on the autoroute for a couple of hundred miles at a go.
Seemed to work, so I gather.

It's a Bandit. There's no way it'll be doing a couple of hundred miles
    in one go.

I had one like that on the CB, and windblast seemed to be much less when I
took it off. I've still got it out in the shed, I can bung it in the post
if you want to have a play with it.

Very kind of you to offer - I guess trying one personally is the only
way to find out for sure. What's it like? How much do you want for it?

I have a Givi A210 on my SV. It does help, but there is still some
    buffeting >90.
