First, this isn't Consumer Reports but some site that claims this was
published in CR. Second, it's not about the Cobra but the stock Stang.

Isn't it sad that beautiful new Mustang is equipped with a Ford electrical
    system?

  3. Here's a slightly more authoritative quote from CNN. This is an
article in CNN money from November 8th, 2004 about Consumer Reports'
    findings:

    http://tinyurl.com/3sdr4

29 of the top 32 spots were filled by Japanese models, and the only
American models to make the top 32 were the Buick Regal and the
    non-supercharged Pontiac Gran Prix.

The Consumer Reports results are for "sedans", but the rankings
include everything from a Honda Civic to a Lexus 430, so I think a
Mustang would have fallen in the same category.

No mention of a Mustang anywhere in the article.

  4. I found this article:

    http://www.strategiy.com/inews.asp?id=20050308005116

That mentions the mustang, but not specifically the cobra

JD Power rates differently, apparently, with much higher failure rates(CR
listed ford as 17 per 100, JDPower listed ford as 127 per 100), but doesn't
    mention the mustang specifically:

    http://money.cnn.com/2004/04/28/pf/autos/powerqualitysurvey/

And if you look up the 2004 mustang on JDPower, they have no data for the
    2004 mustang.

  5. On old beemers at least, they tell you to replace floats and
float needles every couple of year for just that reason.

This reminds me too why I like petcocks with an "off" position.

Are the bowls not vented ? I'd have thought you'd at least
see dribbling gas long before you filled up the engine.

Also make me wonder what kind of shape the bearings are in
    after their recent bath.

Hmmm. Put that on hold for a coupla days. I just remembered where I heard
that from: my wife, quoting the West Suburban (Chicago) Daily Herald's
regurge from the Consumer Report, Wed. or Thu. 3/9 or 3/10. If I can find
it, I'll post a reference. Otherwise, and I really hate this... I'll come
back for my slice of crow.

Hey, I didn't mean to come across so nasty. I just
have NEVER had a good experience with fords. Only
good thing I can say about them is that 84'
T-Birds have semi adequate brakes in dry
conditions but you will still hit the idiot who
pulled out in front of you.

Remember in Reeky "Eating Crow" is the standard
meal but we never apologize...except when we go
    over the line.
