Flag, caretaker, arse, boot

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by frjack at work, Apr 23, 2007.

  1. Looked out of the office window, earlier and noticed the Town Hall was
flying the Union Jack, rather than St. George's flag, so I phoned the
council switchboard, just out of curiosity.

It seems the caretaker is in for a bollocking...

PLEASE get your terminology about our National Flag correct! the ONLY time
it should be called the Union JACK is when it is flown on the JACK mast of a
    ship

  3. Probably just some illegal immigrant who has read a bit of Shakespeare
    and wants to fit in.

Hanging, is too good for him. So that with a bit of drawing and then a
some quartering followed by a grovelling sincere apology for past wrongs
from soon to be ex presidential lacky blur is the correct response
though. I should just like to point that out.

Not necessarily. At least not in recent, common usage:

  5. And why shouldn't it? Last time I looked we lived in the UK. The
official flag of which is the Union Jack/Flag[1].

For the record, the BBC website disregards the term "union flag" because
of its "great potential for confusion", preferring union jack (in lower

Quite. On a day like today, only the Turkish flag will do.

  8. Snot *our* national flag is it. *Our* national flag is The Cross Of St
George. The Union Jack is what the British have their underpants made
    from.

Following on from that... <Sticks on Ode to Joy> the last time I
looked we lived in Europe. The official flag of which is the
delightful in varietate concordia blue with yellow stars on it.

I'm sick of the sight of the Flag of St George, anyway. All the local
chavs have got them fluttering from their cars. I suppose they tucked
them away after we got knocked out of the World Cup. And I was stuck
in Tonbridge for half an hour yesterday because of some bloody chavs'
parade, and it wasn't even on the right day FFS.

    Chav's parade?

Assuming no real changes in the 20 years since I did it, and we're
talking about Tonbridge here so probably not, then that'll have been the
St George's Day parade for the local cubs, scouts and guides. It used to
end up at Tonbridge School chapel, no idea if it still does. They hold
it on the Sunday nearest to 23rd, iirc. The mrs was in Hereford
yesterday and a similar thing was going on there.

Ah. I stand corected. Yes, it did end up in the chapel at the school.

Hmf. OK, so that's "traditional": I'll let them off the hook.

Is flying bollocks from Landrovers common in Ambridge these days,
    young Master Barford?
