I had a ride of a 00 FJR1300 the other week, thought it be something sedate

had power to rip arms off, handling was something to get use to, seemed very
nimble steering as opposed to leaning through corners.

but what sort of opinion is how does a pillion feel on the back..

My missus complains shes leaning too far forward, hurts her legs, and gets
pushed back and forward too much on my current cbr600f4i.

Whos done some long pillion rides on one?

also they seem to come with panniers?

    Cheers

Gawd, Cat, if you can't see anything anyway you might as well sit down.

    (how about a helmet-mounted periscope?)

Mate of mine has one... a trio of us went up fthrough Bruthen to Dinner
Plain for lunch on Sat. Others can comment on the pillion side of things
although AFAIK his wife has no probs in that department. You will
certainly find it handles a lot different tan the 600. The bike seemed to
take the corners in a fairly up-right sort of mode. No doubt there is
rider input in that, he certainly made up anything that it lacked in the
    cornering dept. on the straights.

Can ya ask his wife about pillioning?

What is it about its handling, why so different?

    tar.

i wana take the missus for long bike rides, but i need to buy the right
    bike.

Id like a blackbird, but i think the pillioning part will be about the same
    as my 600..

    Where's Cat's opinion? I know she's been pillion on a Blackbird, a CBR600 and
    an FJR1300...

Not to mention a Bandit 1200, VFR800, CBR954, A Beemer (Sorry Tim, can't remember which model it
    was) and a few others.

She's not particularly complimentary about the FJR for pillions. Not totally sure why but overall
    she wasn't impressed.

I limited my list to the particular bikes in consideration by madbiker...
which just happened to be the same model bikes I remembered her being pillion
    on at Wintersun last year.
All she could see was a tigerangel jacket ?

If you want something with speed for yourself and comfort for the other half
and don't mind a naked bikes for looks give a Honda CB 1300 a go. Hubby just
bought one and compared to FJR1200 his mate has got I prefer to sit on the
rear of the Honda for comfort. not just in the seat area (very comfy seat).
As for price Yamaha new $23,-24,000 Honda $15,990. Myself, I own a
little '04 VTR 250 which I am learning to ride all over again. But I don't
mind being on the back of the CB even for a long haul.

At a Honda ride day earlier this year my pillion thought the CB1300 was the
pick of the bikes that we testrode[1]. Had the wickedest sounding Staintune
    exhaust fitted too.

[1] ok I confess it wasn't a fair comparison. The other two bikes were a
    VTX1800 and a CBR600RR. Comfortwise the CBR600RR came second and the VTX1800
    a distant last.

i accually dont mind naked bikes, perhaps a cb1300 might be it, never really
    looked at em..

but with a screen upfront she might be the go.

but i also like the look of the blackbird and the kawa.

But all bikes must meet the approval of the royal hinus's bottom before
purchase, not many bike shops will let me take a pillion along for the
    ride..

    Well......

as a pillion i certainly have ridden a lot of bikes in my time :)

But yes as dale mentioned I dont like the FJR as a bike to be pillion on. I
have ridden countless times with tim in the past and as a rider he's
brilliant but i just was not comfy on the fjr with him.

    My thoughts :
the seat was too wide for my hips and legs - as a short person this can
    affect comfort on the back.
yes you do sit parrell (sp) to the rider - not raised above but after been
slightly higher seat it's nice to know whats coming.
I found with seats like the blackbird you are still on the same seat but
slightly raised higher, i dont mind that, compared to being on the back of
the blade with 2 inches higher seat than the rider that suxs. The vtr is
much better to be on the back of!
I found the cornering to be a little odd too, just couldn't quite get the
    feel of it.

I guess i must have just found it boring!

Really nothing too major but i did not find it comfy.

If your looking at a blackbird i found that much more comfy that the fjr.
