Fitting a new Trophy indicator

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Oct 9, 2004.

  1. First, purchase indicator at ridiculous cost.

Then ask bloke at Carl Rosner if it can be fitted with the fairing in
situ - is there enough room to rummage behind the forks.

    Receive smile, and answer: "No".

Let bloke take a deep breath, and watch as he holds his thumb and
forefinger an inch apart. "The guy who can fit one of those in situ will
have hands this small, and...." (holds hands eighteen inches apart)
    "fingers this long."

He's right. What a fucking silly design. Undo fairing chin piece, undo
belly pan bolts, undo fairing panel bolts, undo bolts that secure
fairing inner to panel (we're up to about 17 bolts so far), remove
panel, then undo another four bolts that hold another inner panel to the
panels, and two more bolts to remove indicator.

Then struggle to put it all back, cursing as the little fairing clips
that receive the bolts shift out of position.

'Kin ell. Two hours it took.

You want a ZX-9R, you do. The indicators pop back in to the fairing on
rubber mounts, after you've clouted them on the gate post while putting
    the bike away.

Makes note NOT to break any indicators off.

Are fairing bobbins worth the cost then?

  7. That rattle you can now hear is the little metal clamps that used to exist
inside the rubbers rattling around deep in the fairing.

I have some spare ones, and a black hugger, and a rear seat clamp. C1
model. My brother has an Ohlins and a full titanium Akrapovic sytem as
well but I think thats an E1 not sure. He had them fitted to a Z1000.

I know this, but as the indicator didn't fly off at 150mph last night I
think I'll leave it be, as I'm bound to clout it against our gatepost at
home. It was the previous owner who knocked the indicator out of the
    fairing on his gatepost.
The hugger might be of interest as the one I have bolts through the
paddock stand bobbin mount, which means I can't fit my bobbins in right
away. I don't want to make some Heath Robinson bracketry up to mount it
in a different way. How much are you after?

The Ohlins won't fit my C2 if it is an E1 fitment, plus isn't needed at
    the moment.

10 quid sounds good, but I think you'll be a bit heavy to send by post.
IIRC you're a bit of a lardy fucker.
