Fit modern ignition to old CB450? Will it work?

    I have a Honda CB450 race bike, and the current breakerless ignition
    (Piranha) is , well, cr@p.

    I'm not bothered about self generating ignition and avoiding a
    battery, so I was wondering if I can run the pickups (modified of
    course), loom and ignition box from a modern twin like the
    CB500/GPZ500/GS500 on my bike.

    Any reasons why this is doomed to failure?
