  1. Hi all,
Just wanting to grab some feedback on what would be a great 1st bike for
    myself.
I understand that this is probably a subject that you are all tired off but
    any help will be appreciated.

I am wanting a learner legal road bike (preferably a sports/touring). I am
able to buy new but will consider
a second hand bike as well. I am currently looking at the Kawasaki ZZ-R250.

    What do you all think?

A ZZ-R250 should be an ideal first bike if it's in good nick. If you live in
one of the LAMS states then you might be better of with either an ER 5 or
GS500 as a first bike as you may get a longer use out of it.

ZZR250 would be ideal but so many good similar bikes available.

Suggest buy secondhand for yr first bike, make all the usual mistakes (eg.
foot down in gravel, sand or oil at traffic lights/carparks) and you'll save
the bucks for the next bike. There are plenty of 250's doing the rounds as
a learner bike in the trading areas.

Buying new wipes off dollars straight off the showroom floor and also once
you scratch/bend it with it falling off the sidestand as above.

Otherwise, if you're made of money then new is always nice :)

All the best and INVEST IN GOOD QUALITY GEAR and TRAINING! Buy second hand
    bike but 1st quality gear...

I've just got the basics as far as gear is concerned and already I've spent
about $1,500 and I need to get more. problem is,is trying to wear something
with good protection but making sure you're not gunna cook inside as it can
get extremely uncomfortable in the heat.
I've found that my HJC helmet is very noisy at highway speeds so earplugs
are a good investment as well.

When riding, especially if you're a newby like me, don't try to be Mick
Doohan, ride within your capabilities and you will live longer.Recent
accidents have happened just a few weeks ago by guys riding well beyong
their capabilities and are now dead or close to it and have killed other
    motorcyclists.

I have an ER-5 Kawasaki which was used but almost new at over 2 grand
cheaper than new and it's a great allrounder without being a ball tearer and
I've even done a 1,700km tour on it cruising on 100-120kph most the way with
great ease and comfort and economy so if you live in NSW, you can get one
    from L's and beyond.

Enjoy your riding...but be sensible please!!

    Cheers

Not bad little beasts, although they're no better than the slightly
cheaper GPX250. As PaulH says, the state of the individual bike is
more important than the reputation of the model. On the other hand,
you're likely to get a better ZZR than a CBRRRR for the same money ...

Personally I prefer my Giant, its got both front and rear disc brakes, you
    don't get that on a CB250. ;)

In all seriousness ZZR are a reasonable buy, but GPX250 are usually
cheaper with only marginally crapper performance. Tho if you're looking at
a ZZR I have a feeling you are not that concerned about performance
    anyway.

    I've got a very-good-condition ZZR250 for sale in Sydney. 2003
model, about 14,500-odd Kms from memory. I want 6 for it.

Send a stomped, self-abused elephant to the email address that
this post is from (It's a real address) if interested.
