First signs of panic buying?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Sep 8, 2005.

  1. Had to fill the car this evening, as you do.

First filling station - Blimey, that's busy.... Carry on.

Next one (the cheapest one around, where I was headed anyway) - even
busier. Queueing off the forecourt, in fact.

Ho hum, I'm in a hurry. OK, it'll be the BP station then. Still busier
than usual, and I saw a man filling first his Skoda and then a (brand
new) jerrican. Not something you see every day. He took 30 litres worth
of petrol, and IIRC a jerrican holds well over 20 litres, so he was just
    keeping the Skoda topped up.

Is it just me, or have other people noticed more traffic on the
    forecourts, as it were?

Aye - Tescos forecourt has been busy all week. Had to wait for a pump
when I filled up on Monday.

Fucking madness, 'cos, according to the telly, prices will start to drop
    a bit within 7 days.

I fully expect to hear of another muppet storing petrol in a wheelybin,
    sometime soon.

Wouldn't know, I have man flu so the furthest I have been from the house
today is into the garden to pick some tomatoes and a couple of carrots
for me dinner and my daily dose of a couple of strawberries, and anyway
I don't fucking care about a few selfish tossers.

They were queing all over the place at the forecourt in Bawtry at 8.00 this
    morning......
Luckily for me there was a badly parked Transit stopping cars getting to one
pump. Just enough room for a Bandit though......

    Kin Eeejits!

My Landy had two ten gallon tanks in it I think. So that would be
getting on for £90 worth of petrol now. So that would be 300 miles for
£90 with mixed town / open country driving. Shit...

You just remended me of how much it cost me to run the Land Rover, that
was before the regular servicing and upgrades. My CG125 will do the same
sort of miles for about £12. Heh...

I always knew you were a wuss !

So far with the man flu I have
Given a training session in Sol10 to SysAdmins at Deutsche Bank
Gone to Anglesea on the bike for the weekend camping, and swam (yes
    really) in the sea.
Been commuting by XJ900F all week to Manchester to build some servers and
    a F15k campus cluster.

And to be totally honest, I'm fucked !

So am I. I am totally exhausted and I have done nothing other than make
loads of tea and eat tomatoes. Which I should point out are so fresh
and sweet and tasty that even through flu dulled senses they still taste
    yummy.

Last time the blockade rumours were doing the rounds I saw an old bloke
filling up his merc s500 then the worlds smallest fuel cannister for good
    measure.
The two litres he squeezed in there would get him all of another 8 miles.

Nope, but the Monotram won't need filling up for another fortnight or so,
and I'm resting the Drifter - it's going on ebay tonight, and I'm not
    risking another crash.

Why didn't I think of that, with this recycling thing the council is doing I
now have 3 wheelie bins... Wonder how much it would cost to fill them all?

I know. In Blackpool you get 3 bins and a box. A street near me is terraced
housing, no gardens and some converted to flats. The street looks fuckin
    ridiculous with multicoloured bins everywhere.

You're lucky to be alive if you've been riding with this damn flu bug thing.

All I've done the last few days is sleep lots and when awake feel a bit
woozy. It's now mutated into something different goddamnit and I'm
blaming people like you. Spreading your damn bugs around when you
    should be quarantined at home.

Or is man flu a euphemism and I'm ranting on about something completely
    different ?
