First ride of the year!

I wasn't aware a right off was required. A proper bin with rider and
bike not travelling together as one seems to be a part of it though. I
suppose really that the power to award really goes to the existing
holder and all the rest of us riding gods can merely nominate.[/QUOTE]

    Ok, here's the damage tally:

Me: Right scaphoid bruised (first thing to hit to road) deep scratch to
back of left calf (god knows how)
Kit: Scuffed palms of both gloves and right toe of boot
Bike: RHS: mirror broken, indicator worn away, side of fairing cracked,
handlebar risers bent, bar end weight screw snapped off inside the
handlebar (that's gonna be fun to remove!), exhaust pushed in (and/or
bent hanger mount on the frame), rear brake lever bent & footpeg return
    spring broken. LHS: nothing!
Possible damage: RH heated grip as it has what can only be described as a
bruise on it, maybe the element is damaged? Thankfully I don't think I'll
be needing them until the end of this year but I'll check it for
continuity when I start to dismantle bits for repair.

    FONT: make your decision...

He'd need Rocket III money to do that and I think that may be a bit of a
stumbling block, but he's also lost any interest in riding, so I don't see
    it happening.

Hah. Had that happen on Hailwood's Rise.

Nailed the Z750 over the tramlines, and thought I was Ago.

    Then I got swamped.

I still recall the overtake you pulled between a couple of buses (or
was it trucks) on one french run. I really thought for a couple of
    seconds you hadn't made it.

Jesus, is there anyone who hasn't done a truly dodgy overtake between a
couple of buses (or was it trucks) on one french run.

  6. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, boots
Trucks. I remember that too, on dark sleepless nights.

Not my finest hour, but I'm still alive, so it must have been safe,
    right?

Yeah. But *I* was on the Blingmobile.

I can think of two separate occasions when I did it, once on a motorway,
the other with oncoming traffic. And I might have been on something
relatively nimble but on both occasions I kinda rather forgot I had
    panniers.

Of course, that's why we all ride motorcycles, for that feeling of
    invulnerability.

IIRC one was oncoming, it was a bend and the lardy old bus. I did
truly think for a brief time that WUN was going to buy the farm.

Of course and the only reason I didn't follow you is because I am a
    yellow coward.

  12. Well I remember the motorway one, cos I was watching my mirrors to see
who else had the stup^bottle. Statto, iirc, did the sensible thing and
used the hard should after seeing you very nearly get squished.

  13. Dragging on something (footpegs?) for the LHS of the bike as it went down.

I've watched Christofire do that a couple of times and both times I thought
"He's not long for this world if he keeps on doing that".

Then he stopped doing it. Mind ewe, his bike was totalled, so that probably
    helped.

I thought WUN's trick was to bulldoze them up the arse in the hope he'd
richoquet off to one side or the other?

  17. Think back a few years, and that line was very popular around these parts
every Spring. Admittedly, mostly by girlies with little cruisers though.

I did that on last years trip. Leaving me on the wrong side of the
road after trying to nip past Andy at the lights.

The day I bought the Drifter, I filtered between coaches from the back to
the front of the Dover-Calais ferry. Mind, they were stationary at the
    time.
