He's up to playing his bass geetar and I also know what he's *not* up to.
    Bike riding.
    Aye, that'd work for me.

The trouble with undecided crock-rocketeers is when they pull out, they have
a tendency to just miss the kerb on the other side of the road.

I think they'd shit themselves if they discovered another bike "right
    there".

Yes, "for a couple of miles the Black Busa Chaps were riding through
    town" sounds so much better.

Not as far as I know Nige. He flogged the Gixxer last year and he's
currently more interested in bass playing than bike riding. The Gixxer was
giving him pain in the back and knees, so I don't see him getting another
sportsbike if he gets any bike at all.

get a pair of muffs - made winter riding more bearable as I can use a pair
of summer or intermediate gloves in all weathers

    these Italian ones are excellent
    http://www.tucanourbano.it/main/termoscud.aspx

If they have stockists in the UK then I'm sure you should find one near you

I probably should. But I'm OK in light gloves down to around -2C, and
below that there's usually so much ice on the roads that I doubt I'd
    oftern use the bike.
They seem to be made for scooters, they don't look as though they'd fit
around all the switches on the RT.
I was about to write something sarcastic here, but on second reading it
seems more likely that you know that I'm not in the UK. Next time I'm on
the other side of the tunnel I'll look out for Tucano in bike shops.
Italian gear is quite popular in Geneva, but I don't recall seeing them
    here.

The 319 muffs as pictured here
    http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204903&highlight=gaucho
fit straight on the RGS, including over the handguards. They have a velcro
seam which allows you to wrap them around the handlebar paraphernalia.
If you click the frog logo you will see there are a number of stockists in
    Savoy.

Get yourself on Ebay and buy a pair of Oxford bar muffs. If you've got
heated grips fitted and then chuck a set of muffs on you'll be able to
ride in summer gloves for most of the year.

The fact that you'll have dry gloves makes them worth fitting even if
    you don't have heated grips.

TBF every time the FBOTY is mentioned we get that many different answers as
to what qualifies I always forget the actual answer among the opinions.

Of course I always convince *myself* I've remembered it properly this time :)

Having been that "crock-rocket" rider years ago on a 'FOT, just about to make
an overtake only to have Champ and Mat Tab overtake me and all traffic in
sight at 3 times my speed through a 2mm gap, I learned my lesson.

I will never forget one ride down through France. I was *on it* that
day, really going well. Smooth, fast. I got one corner absolutely right,
couldn't have done it faster. Perfect gear on the exit, accelerating
    hard. YESSSSS...

Then Champ came past me. On his back wheel.

    What a ****.

Cold tyres? no, cold road? yes too much brakes? maybe, rider error more
like then ran out of road prematurely due to gravel near the kerb on the
outside of the bend. I know I panicked and had taken the same corner last
Tues night at higher speed than I came off at but I just couldn't get my
brain to believe that I could make it yesterday morning for some reason.

As I said to the lady who's driveway I ended up in: well the kit did its
    job :)
