  1. There isn't.

    There is, however, MPG.

It will cost you your budget again to insure it. How's that?

Not true -- I can get TPFT on it for 235 squid.

I used to own an XJ600 and couldn't fault it. Approx 115/120mph top end and
acceleration to keep you ahead of most things from the lights.

This webpage gives some comparisons of similar bikes, although nothing to
show top speed, just power output.

My CBR gets better MPG the harder and faster you ride it. Weird but true. I
guess bikes are built to be ragged.

I owned one for 11 days before I crashed head on into a stupid Nissan Micra
that decided to turn across in front of me! What a lovely bike. Felt
underpowered next to a 4 cylinder jap bike but the insurance for me wasn't
too bad (31 year old, no no-claims, TPFT was about £500 - can't exactley
remember). Get eBike to give you online quotes and you can mess about with
bike types until you find one you can afford to buy.

Ended up as a happy story in the end as the Nissan's insurance paid out
twice what I paid for it. :)

    Verdigris says...
Not so. An Aprilia brake lever is 75 quid, the same Brembo part for a
Ducati is 15 quid. A pattern one is 8 or 9 quid.

    I haven't lost my mind, it's
backed up to a floppy disc
    that's around here somewhere.

    Hi Zan,

Well, I took the plunge and bought the Sprint 900 for 1500. What a
beauty! I hope I will be able to handle her. At 175cm, I'm just tall
enough to plant both feet on the ground. She's so heavy, I lost control
and dropped her while stationary the first time I got on. luckily an
old cabinet in the driveway caught most of the fall. Now I've got a new
level of respect for her. It made me wonder if I shouldn't have gone
for a Japanese 500cc bike instead...

I'm shopping around for insurance, and things look good. Churchill is
quoting TPFT for just 200, and that's with my provisional licence! I'm
guessing the datatag is pushing the cost down.

On my 11th day of ownership I'm going to keep an eagle eye out for
    those Nissan Micras.

Well, I guess you've bought it now. Be *very* careful. I'll worry
    about you.
Re: Insurance, you must be filling in the details incorrectly.[1]
Phone them and ask for a quote. When it says something like "How many
years have you held a full licence?" you need to tell it that you've
held one for zero years. Don't count 10 years if you've had a full UK
licence for a *car* for ten years. £200 isn't really a realistic
    quote.

[1] Is it actually possible to be insured on a bike you're not
permitted to ride under UK law without an Approved Instructor being in
full time radio contact under the Direct Access Scheme?

Cheers mate. I WILL be careful. That initial drop sobered me up.
I'm planning to phone them to do the final purchase, but I have been
reading carefully the meanings of the questions, and I think its valid.
They want to know what type of license I have (in which I choose
provisional) and then how long I've had it. I've had a full car licence
for 11 years, and my counterpart shows type A provisional entitlement
    since 1994.

Even if that falls through, no biggie. Once I get the full licence, I'm
pretty sure about where I stand -- a tad over 200 quid at
ebikeinsurance. Strange, right? I expected to pay 500 or so, and I
would have stayed away from the bike purchase if that was the case. My
initial search for quotes were around that level, but eventually I
found better deals. I think the Datatag really helps. We can compare
notes on the specifics if you like.
Yes, I can still insure the bike, but of course, it would be illegal to
ride it. I'm going to start Direct Access lessons in a week's time,
using the school's standard learner bike.

By insuring it at this time, I would only really benefit from the theft
component of TPFT (and i suppose also spontaneous combustion. And also
the rather unlikely event of a third party injuring themselves on it
while its parked in my driveway - natch).

Well, you had to buy it once you'd dropped it, I suppose.
I'm sure you've dropped a *hyuuge* bollock somewhere along the line
here, I'm sorry to say. And I've never found Datatagged bikes to be
significantly cheaper to insure - maybe in the order of 10%, tops.

There could be trouble ahead ...

Not so: I dropped it on my own after buying it.
I see. Well, in that case I'll brace myself for a hefty insurance,
    should it come to that.
Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep you posted.

Do that. While you're at it, could you please retain appropriate

make reading threads much easier. Ta.
